Wildfire broke out in the Gila River bed, and the governor urgently discussed countermeasures. Last Tuesday afternoon, a fire broke out in the dry bed of the Gila River near Wickenburg. Thick smoke caused by the wildfire once threatened U.S. Highway 60. The fire broke out at 91st Avenue and Southern, charring at least 2 acres and sending thick black smoke in all directions. Firefighters temporarily closed nearby U.S. Highway 60 in both directions. The wildfire was later extinguished and traffic returned to normal. The fire brigade did not disclose the cause of the fire. Spring and summer are the peak seasons for wildfires in the state, and last year's several forest fires are still fresh in our memories. The governor has recently discussed countermeasures with federal and state emergency officials, forestry department directors, and others to reduce the risk of fires.
