The number of teenagers smoking marijuana exceeded smoking. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported today that 23% of high school students said they had smoked marijuana recently, and 18% said they smoked cigarettes. The report surveyed teenagers on a variety of risky behaviors. The number of U.S. teen smokers has been declining for decades; however, the number of marijuana smokers has fluctuated and has been on the rise recently. The number of teenagers who smoke marijuana and smoke cigarettes is sometimes about the same, but last year for the first time, the number of marijuana smokers exceeded the number of smokers. A previous survey conducted by the University of Michigan also found that more teenagers smoke marijuana than smoke cigarettes. Experts from Michigan say today's teens clearly view marijuana as less dangerous than cigarettes.
