North Dakota residents go to Arizona to grab houses (Alberta Times) North Dakota residents who would normally rent their winter retirement homes in Arizona are no longer renting and are buying homes in Arizona, taking advantage of the low prices of Arizona's housing market that burst. Low-priced homes in Phoenix are attracting northerners, including many Minot residents who were affected by last summer's flooding. Gilbert's agent, Rocky Parra, told the Minot Daily News that traffic from the so-called "Snowbirds" has been steady. Minot resident Dan Koritich and his neighbors considered renting a retirement home in Arizona. After the flood, they bought a trailer together in Minot, giving them a place to live in Minot, and then headed to Phoenix for real estate. A five-bedroom house with a swimming pool in a gated community is surprisingly affordable, Dankolitich said.
