Honda announced on the 19th that it would recall more than 321,000 small SUVs around the world because the doors of these vehicles may not latch. Ford Motor Company (Ford) also informed owners to immediately stop driving the latest model of the Escape SUV to prevent engine fires. Honda's recall covers 314,000 CR-V compact SUVs from the 2012 model year and approximately 7,300 Accord ILX small luxury sedans from the 2013 model year. Honda said that if the driver's or passenger's door handle of these vehicles is used at the same time as an electric or manual door lock, the door latch may fail, that is, the door may not latch, or even if it is latched, it will open when the lock is used. The company has had no reports of accidents or injuries due to this problem. The recall covers 166,600 CR-Vs and more than 6,200 ILXs in the United States. Car owners will be notified in mid-August, asking them to take their cars to dealers for inspection and repairs if necessary. Ford also issued an unusual warning on the 19th, recalling the 2013 Escape SUV equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. Escapes from other years or with other engines are not affected. Ford urges owners to stop driving the vehicles immediately and contact their dealers. The dealer will come to pick up the car and give a car to the owner for temporary use until the car is repaired. These vehicles may have fuel lines that rupture, spilling gasoline and causing engine fires. Ford hopes to have the necessary parts shipped and all affected vehicles repaired within two weeks. As long as the parts are available, the actual repair job only takes an hour. Ford said it had received three reports of fires, two at the factory and one while the owner was driving, but no one was injured. Ford stresses that the cars are safe to park in a garage because they can only catch fire while being driven. The recall affects 11,500 Escapes in the United States and Canada, of which only 4,800 have been sold and the rest are still in dealers.
