Data map: U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson Nuland called the Diaoyu Islands the "Senkaku Islands"

[Global Network Report Reporter Wang Huan] Japan's "Sankei Shimbun" reported on August 29 that when the U.S. State Department spokesperson Victoria Lan talked about the Diaoyu Islands issue at a regular press conference on the 28th, she called the Diaoyu Islands the "Senkaku Islands," which is the name used by the Japanese authorities for the Diaoyu Islands and their surrounding affiliated islands.

It is said that Newland described the Diaoyu Islands as "SENKAKUS" at the press conference. This pronunciation is the English plural form of the Japanese pronunciation of "Senkaku".

"Sankei Shimbun" speculated that this shows that the US government has designated Japan's name for the Diaoyu Islands as its "official name." The United States may have determined that the Diaoyu Islands and surrounding islands are "Japanese territory."

Nuland reiterated at a press conference on the 28th that the Diaoyu Islands are applicable to the US-Japan Security Treaty, but she also emphasized that the US government will not adopt a specific position on the Diaoyu Islands issue.

Regarding the Diaoyu Islands issue, the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly reiterated that the Diaoyu Islands and its affiliated islands have been China’s inherent territory since ancient times, and China has indisputable sovereignty over them. According to the "Island Protection Law of the People's Republic of China", the State Oceanic Administration of China announced the standard name of Diaoyu Island in March 2012 as "Diaoyu Island" in Chinese pinyin as "Di鄌 Y? Dǎo" and its English name as "Diaoyu Island".
