Maricopa County will ban the sale of "bath salts" (Alberta Times) Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said Tuesday that although pharmacists are researching alternative ingredients for "bath salts" to no avail, Maricopa County will introduce legislation to prohibit any business from selling such drugs. Gov. Jen Brewer signed an emergency bill in February that made seven synthetic "bath salts" banned in Arizona, but did not ban anyone from selling them. Since then, pharmacists have improved the recipe, and users can still buy "bath salts" online or at some local tobacco shops for as low as $10. Arizona State University police officer Laura Gill said police were unable to confiscate the new "bath salts" because they were unsure whether their ingredients were legal. In response to this situation, the Maricopa County Prosecutor's Office believes that it should refer to Yavapai County's approach and legislate to prohibit any company from selling "bath salts" in order to eliminate this type of drug and reduce the chance of it harming people.
