The 2012 Congress of the Chinese Writers Association of North America was unveiled at the Sheraton Hotel in Flushing on August 29th. Nearly a hundred representatives from branches in North America attended. This conference aims to unite admirable writing professionals to communicate, share experiences, and strengthen each other. Gao Zhenqun, director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech to cheer for Chinese writers. The World Chinese Writers Association was founded in 1981 and has more than 3,000 members. The North American Chinese Writers Association is the largest association on the seven continents. It has more than 20 branches (at least 35 members are required to be admitted as a branch). The Arizona chapter was added in 2001. The representatives attending the conference this time were Shaojun, the current president, and Changzhen, the president when the branch was founded. The conference hired Mr. Bai Xianyong (son of the famous Kuomintang general Bai Chongxi) as the keynote speaker. Taking the title of his new book "Father and the Republic of China", he talked about his experience in writing this picture-based literary biography. This lecture was co-organized with the New York World Journal to expand the influence of literature in the community. Hundreds of people attended the lecture, which was a great occasion. Due to the favorable geographical location and the assistance of Fo Guang Shan in New York, the conference moved to Deer Park in Upstate for two days and two nights on the third day. "Deer Park" is a mountain activity center with beautiful scenery and quiet environment. At the meeting, writer Cong Su gave a speech on the recent development of overseas Chinese literature, and writer Shaojun gave a speech on the latest trends in online literature and literary publishing. There are also activities such as experience exchange, spiritual meditation, maple viewing and mountain patrol among branches. On the 31st, the Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated, and a "Mid-Autumn Night" was held that night, with Shaojun and Chen Shimei as hosts. Attendees wrote, directed and performed [Hula Dance] themselves, and some men dressed up as women to perform as guest performers, making it hilarious and entertaining.
