Urban population growth is New Orleans the fastest and Detroit is the slowest (Alberta Times) According to statistics, the average population growth rate of U.S. cities with a population of more than 300,000 between July 2010 and July 2011 was 1.5%. Bloomberg BusinessWeek recently ranked the 10 cities with the fastest and slowest population growth. The average population growth rate of the 10 cities with the fastest growing population is 3.1%, the average unemployment rate is 8.0%, slightly lower than the national average of 8.1%, and the foreclosure rate is 0.16%, slightly higher than the national average of 0.15%. Ranking from one to ten are New Orleans, Austin, Denver, Raleigh, Tampa, Atlanta, Washington, Charlotte, El Paso and Miami. The average population growth rate of the 10 cities with the slowest population growth was 0.1%, and 4 of them experienced population decline during the statistical period. The average unemployment rate is 8.4% and the foreclosure rate is 0.19%, both of which are higher than the national average. Ranking from one to ten are Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee, Wichita, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
