Phoenix Fire Department assisted in New York's post-disaster reconstruction (Alberta Times) Twenty Phoenix police and firefighters were dispatched to New York City on Monday to help it rebuild after the hurricane. Two weeks after the hurricane, more than 100,000 residents in Long Island, New York, are still without power. A large number of victims are still staying in temporary evacuation centers, and people are complaining about their livelihood. New York City officials sent a message to the National Hazardous Incident Management Team for help. Officials said New York urgently needed more than 5,000 pieces of equipment after the hurricane, including generators, dump trucks and forklifts to clear buildings and trees blown down by strong winds. The Phoenix rescue team is expected to stay in New York for two weeks, stationed at Citi Field in Queens, to help with the area's post-disaster reconstruction.
