In the 113th Congress starting today (January 3), three Chinese congressmen will be sworn in. This time, the three Chinese-American congressmen, Judy Chu from California, Tammy Duckworth from Chicago, and Grace Meng from New York City, are all outstanding women. They have not only written a new page for Chinese-American political participation in the United States, but are also the first in the history of the U.S. Congress.

Representative Zhao Meixin had a strong victory in the election on November 6 last year. She defeated her Republican opponent Jack Orswell by more than double digits and was successfully re-elected. She became the first Chinese-American federal representative to be re-elected in the history of California, creating a glorious history of Chinese-American participation in politics.

On November 6 last year, Meng Zhaowen, the sixth district of New York State in the House of Representatives, became the first Chinese-American congressman in the Eastern United States with 70% of the votes.

Tammy Duckworth, who is half-Chinese, was elected to the Illinois Congress on the evening of the 6th, becoming the first Asian-American congressman from Illinois. 44-year-old Tammy Dakovos was born in Bangkok, Thailand, to a Chinese mother and an American father. She lost her legs in the Iraq War and served as the director of the Illinois Veterans Department from 2006 to 2009. From 2009 to 2011, she was appointed by Obama as the federal assistant secretary of public affairs and interior affairs of the Department of Veterans.

The historic moment when there were three Chinese-American members of the House of Representatives at the same time for the first time occurred in May 2010. Those three are David Wu (Democrat, Oregon), Meixin Zhao, and Charles Kong Djou (Republican, Hawaii).

Zhou Yongkang stood out in the special election after Ambergambi left office in May 2010, but he was defeated by Wakako Hanabusa in the November midterm election and bid farewell to Congress. His short-lived term lasted only more than half a year. He also co-founded the lobbying firm Majority Group in Washington.

Following Zhou Yongkang's resignation in January 2011, Wu Zhenwei, who was elected in 1998, resigned in July 2011 under pressure from all parties due to suspicion of inappropriate sexual contact with his friend's 18-year-old daughter. And Zhao Meixin became the only remaining Chinese-American member of the House of Representatives.
