(Compiled by this website) Four senators inspected the border in Nogales on Wednesday. The tour was hosted by Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake. Both are members of the group responsible for immigration reform. They were joined by Democratic Sen. Schumer of New York and Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado. They came to the border to see the real problems facing the border. Nogales is part of Tucson, one of Arizona's most problematic borders. According to the report, the largest number of illegal border crossers and drug traffickers were arrested here compared with the other nine border areas. One reason is called the funnel effect. They see more traffic coming from safer areas of Mexico. Another reason is the wire fence that protects Arizona's border. It looks like it should be a relatively safe area, but it actually has the highest crime rate. Senators hope the tour will give them a sense of the need for the immigration reform plan to be unveiled next month.
