Local families

The weather in Phoenix changed extremely frequently today.

In the afternoon, National Weather Service radar began tracking heavy rain hitting the North Phoenix area at 25 to 35 mph. The storm contained strong winds and blowing sand, affecting visibility. Due to the winds generated by these storms, dust will affect the entire Phoenix area until 7 p.m., the second dust storm of the day. In the early afternoon, the dust moved south of Phoenix. Visibility dropped to less than half a mile.

The storm could impact Southeast Valley communities such as Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe. After a sandstorm, there may be heavy rain. Please try to drive as little as possible at night and keep easily movable items indoors to avoid unnecessary losses.

On Friday, the weather is expected to be sunny to cloudy in the morning and then cloudy in the afternoon. Friday's high will be between 93 and 97 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
