Local families

Phoenix – Dear friends in Arizona, prepare for the most intense high temperature weather in 2016 so far! This is also the first high temperature warning we have received this year.

Temperatures in the Valley are expected to dip as low as 100 degrees Fahrenheit today and will climb to 107 degrees Fahrenheit in Arizona by Thursday.

Also, as we warm up, our air quality becomes terrible. An advisory on severe pollution of the ozone layer will come into effect on Thursday. So, if you have breathing problems, you may want to limit the time you spend outside.

The hottest day of the week will be Friday, with temperatures in the Valley rising to 110 degrees for the first time this year.

A severe heat advisory is in effect for the Valley, affecting much of southern Arizona and along the Colorado River Valley from Friday through Sunday.

> Temperatures in the Valley will also rise to highs of 110 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit early next week.

> Arizona's record high temperatures are expected to be broken this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and next Monday. Each day has the potential to be 1 to 2 degrees warmer than the previous high temperature record.

This Saturday looks set to be the hottest day in Arizona, with temperatures reaching 116 degrees in Phoenix. If forecasts are accurate, Arizona will be among the earliest this year to experience high temperatures of 115 degrees or above.

This hot weather can be dangerous and even fatal. So, please make sure you are hydrated enough and engage in appropriate outdoor activities every morning. Avoid spending too much time outdoors between 10am and 7pm as this is the hottest time of the day.
