(Reprinted on Xinhuanet) A car accident occurred in Arizona, the United States, on the 24th, and four Chinese tourists died. After a Chinese tourist died overseas, the consular protection staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles entered a tense working state.
After the incident, the staff of the Consulate General in Los Angeles contacted the Arizona police immediately and received official confirmation that four Chinese citizens from Guangdong Province died in a car accident near Kingman in the northwest of the state.
The Consulate General immediately verified the identity of the deceased through the Guangdong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and the Public Security Department, and obtained the information of the deceased’s family in a timely manner. The Consulate General contacted the family members to inform them of the incident, and at the same time assisted the family members in applying for passports and procedures for traveling to the United States, helping the anxious family members to go to the United States in time to handle funeral arrangements.
Zhou Yongmei, Consul of the Consular Section of the Consulate General in Los Angeles, said that after the incident, the consulate actively provided convenience for the family members to come to the United States and maintained close communication with the Arizona police. After the families of the victims arrived, the consulate will accompany the family members to Arizona to help handle the funeral arrangements.
