US-China Cultural and Art Exchange Association: "A Brief Talk on Chinese Painting" is an immediate success (pictures)! Painter Li Cheng introduces the beginning of Chinese painting (Contributed by the U.S.-China Culture and Art Exchange Association) The first cultural and art lecture, "A Brief Talk on Chinese Painting", sponsored by the U.S.-China Culture and Art Exchange Association and co-organized by the New Oriental Art School, was held at 4:30 pm on Saturday (November 19) at the New Oriental Art School. The painter Mr. Li Cheng (Fan Rong) and the calligrapher Dr. Chen Pu first gave the participants a brief talk about the beginning of Chinese painting and its development over the past two thousand years. The development and changes of various dynasties in different historical periods introduced the great influence and contribution of Wu Daozi, a great painter in the Tang Dynasty who was known as the "Painting Sage" and his "Eighty-seven Immortals" on Chinese painting. It also introduced the interesting story of how Mr. Xu Beihong, a modern horse painting master, spent his life savings to collect the "Eighty-Seven Immortals" twice, which aroused the audience's praise. Then painter Fan Rong introduced in detail the immortal work "Pictures of Emperors of All Dynasties" by Yan Liben, a great painter of the Tang Dynasty, using "horse" as the main line, as well as the "Palm of Chariots" which describes the story of Tang Taizong Li Shimin marrying Princess Wencheng to King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet, and its influence on later generations and its historical significance. The two talked about Xu Beihong's "Galloping Horse Picture" from the Eastern Han Dynasty's "Horse Treading on Flying Swallows". Among them, Cao Ba, a master of horse painting in the Tang Dynasty, did not leave any works. Dr. Chen Pu gave everyone a detailed interpretation of the poem "Drawings Lead to General Cao Ba" written by the great poet Du Fu to help everyone understand the life of Cao Ba Kanke. It makes people sigh. Cao Ba's student Han Gan's "Herding Horses Picture", Zhang Xuan's "Guo Lady's Spring Outing", the great Northern Song Dynasty painter Li Gonglin's "Five Horses Picture", the calligrapher Zhao Meng Zhaoye's "Man and Horse Picture", and Yuanren Ren Renfa's "Two Horses Picture" all aroused great interest from everyone. In particular, Ren Bonian, a great all-around painter in the late Qing Dynasty, developed a new method of painting horses, and Xu Beihong, a modern horse painting master, combined Chinese and Western "Galloping Horses" and "Eight Horses". There is also Qi Baishi’s Xu Rusheng’s “Shrimp Picture” which is even more amazing. I admire the patriotic sentiments and proud characters of the two masters Xu Beihong and Qi Baishi. Calligrapher Chen Pu interprets poetry. Painter Fan Rong and calligrapher Dr. Chen Pu sang and sang together on the spot. They combined the lives and interesting stories of painters from past generations to make the brief lecture very lively and interesting. Although the time was limited, the audience's interest was not enough. They all asked about the time and content of the next event. Some Chinese and foreign friends asked for a calligraphy and painting class. Ms. Gu Yayu and Mr. Chen Zhigang, the leaders of the U.S.-China Cultural and Art Exchange Association, gave everyone answers one by one and had a good interactive exchange. This lecture is the first lecture in a series of lectures on U.S.-China culture and art. Subsequently, there will be a monthly lecture or practice class on U.S.-China culture and art. I hope that all Chinese and foreign friends who love culture and art will come together to do a good job in the exchange of culture and art between the United States and China.
