(provided by the Phoenix Chinese Character Cultural Festival) The 2012 Phoenix Chinese Character Culture Festival was hosted by the Chinese Language Institute of Alberta and the Chung Hwa Academy, in conjunction with the Taipei Sister City Committee of the Phoenix Sisters, as well as major, primary, secondary and local schools in the United States and local Chinese schools to jointly promote the wonderful, rich and diverse Chinese character culture, promote Taiwanese Chinese culture, and promote multicultural exchanges. In 2012, the Phoenix Chinese Character Culture Festival went to various mainstream schools in the United States to instruct Taiwanese Chinese culture and folk art, held Chinese festivals and exhibitions, introduced the origin and history of Chinese characters, displayed the beauty of calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting, and used wisdom and hands to create and inspire the beauty and magic of origami and paper-cutting. Calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, origami and paper-cutting are all Chinese folk customs and cultural arts. They contain rich imagination and creative artistic conception, which can open up the mind of truth, goodness and beauty. At the same time, they can train the mind and body to focus, use both hands and brain, devote all their attention and patience, cultivate cultural and artistic cultivation, and make the works beautiful. In 2012, the Phoenix Chinese Character Cultural Festival held the I Love Taiwan Festival Drawing Competition for American school students. The participating students were very enthusiastic. Seventy-five students won the winning prize, and each received a medal. Three of them won the special award, and each received school supplies and schoolbags. At the request of the school and students, another I Love Taiwan Chinese Culture Competition will be held in July. The 2012 Phoenix Chinese Character Culture Festival held a digital design competition for Taiwan scenic spots in traditional Chinese characters for senior students of Chinese schools; a digital card design competition for traditional Chinese characters for middle-grade students; and a digital drawing competition for traditional Chinese characters for elementary students. Phoenix Chinese School students participated. Twelve students participated with excellent results and outstanding and successful works. Three groups of students each won first, second, third, and masterpiece awards. Each student received medals, certificates, and prizes such as school bags and stationery handbags. The 2012 Phoenix Chinese Character Cultural Festival will continue to be held until July. From May to July, various mainstream cultural activities will be combined to promote Chinese character culture. Every year, the Phoenix Chinese Character Cultural Festival attracts more than 25,000 students to learn Chinese character culture, promote Taiwanese Chinese culture, and conduct multicultural exchanges.
