Arizona Senator Yu Yanfen was elected as a legislator of the National Committee of Women in Congress (Alberta Times) According to Washington, DC news, the Chinese-American Yu Yanfen, who was just elected to the Arizona Senate, was selected by the National Committee of Women in Congress, the oldest organization in the country, to serve as a leader in 2013 to provide services for women in politics. Recently, Yanfen Yu was elected as a legislator on the bipartisan Committee on Women. She is an elected representative of the National Order of Women Legislators (NOWL). NOWL was founded in 1938 and is an important member of the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL). At the 2012 annual meeting in Atlanta, Yu Yanfen was elected. Arizona Senator Yu Yanfen said she was honored that her colleagues from across the country selected her to lead the foundation. She is eager to build relationships with women in each state and work together on important events for the National Women’s Congressional Foundation. Hundreds of elected women gathered at the NFLL's annual conference in Atlanta from November 15-19, 2012, to contribute ideas on the most pressing issues facing the country. NFWL provides a nonpartisan environment that encourages dialogue and the sharing of information and experiences. Being a female leader enables you to build coalitions, share the concerns of your constituents, and propose solutions to problems facing your community. NFWL CEO Robin Rudd said he was proud of Yu Yanfen and everything she has done. He said that we are very much looking forward to seeing Yu Yanfen’s wonderful leadership in the foundation. I know she's going to make the next year one of the most exciting and productive in NFL history. Yu Yanfen is about to take office, and the fall of 2013 when she takes office will also be the 75th anniversary of the NFWL annual meeting. Arizona State Senator Yu Yanfen is a Republican. She represents the 20th District, covering the northern Phoenix area. She is the first Chinese-American female senator in Arizona's history. The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) supports women in politics through annual educational and networking events. As a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, the NFWL holds no specific position on public policy matters and serves as a forum for female legislators to exchange information and experiences. www.womenlegislators.org
