Origin of Hope Chinese School: List of first-term alumni of Hope Chinese School Phoenix Tang Xiaoxian Hope Chinese School, formerly known as Tempe Chinese School, held its opening ceremony at the Edna Vihel Activity Center, Tempe, at 2:00 pm on August 19, 1995, followed by the first class. It became the first Chinese school in the history of Arizona to teach Chinese Pinyin, Mandarin, and Simplified Chinese characters, and was one of the earliest group members of the National Association of Chinese Schools.
