(Contributed by the Arizona Branch of the Chinese Kuomintang) The Ambassador of the Republic of China to the United States, Jin Pucong, and his wife Zhou Huiting visited Los Angeles from April 4th to 7th. At noon on April 6th, Ambassador Jin Pucong and his wife attended a grand luncheon hosted by the overseas Chinese community in Los Angeles. He also delivered a speech on Taiwan-US relations. Comrades from the Arizona branch of the Kuomintang actively participated, wearing party branch uniforms and ROC flag scarves, and drove from Arizona to Los Angeles to participate in the welcome event. The party members regarded this event to welcome Ambassador Jin Pucong as an event to support the efforts of the Republic of China to expand diplomacy and strive for national sovereignty.

According to Gao Qizheng, the general convener of the organizing committee, the climax of Jin Pucong's visit to the overseas Chinese community in Los Angeles was the overseas Chinese banquet on the 6th. The entire banquet was attended by a thousand people (including people with mainland background). This shows that the overseas Chinese affairs and diplomatic work of the Republic of China are very efficient, and also reflects that more and more overseas Chinese recognize the sovereign existence of the Republic of China. During the luncheon, Ambassador Jin Pucong praised overseas Chinese for their support and love for the government of the Republic of China in his speech, and encouraged overseas Chinese to promote and contribute to the Republic of China. He also said that the biggest gain from coming to Los Angeles this time is that I learned a lot, and the enthusiasm of the overseas Chinese in Southern California is touching. When Ambassador Jin Pucong learned that the Arizona branch of the Kuomintang was also attending the welcome lunch, Ambassador Jin Pucong and his wife specially took a group photo with all the members.

> The members of the Arizona branch of the KMT who participated in this welcome event were very excited. After the welcome meeting, party members expressed their opinions one after another. Party member Min Zhongying said: The Arizona KMT branch, led by standing committee member Wang Wei and Wang Ting, party members and comrades participated in the event to welcome Ambassador Jin Pucong in Los Angeles. This is a support for the diplomatic work of the Ma Ying-jeou government. We must work together to support President Ma Ying-jeou and continue to lead Taiwan on the road to unity and prosperity.

Now I recall those days as the best moments of my life. Today, Standing Committee Member Wang organized us to attend an event in Los Angeles to welcome Ambassador Jin Pucong of the Republic of China. We regard the event as a matter of bringing honor to the Republic of China and cheering for Taiwan. I often talk to my friends about how when I came to the United States with a Republic of China passport 30 years ago, the U.S. Immigration Service, Customs and other agencies really discriminated against you. Now I come to the United States with a Republic of China passport and not only do we not need a visa, but the Immigration Bureau is also very polite to us. This is a victory for the diplomacy of the Republic of China. This is the dignity given to us by the Republic of China. Party members Zhan Haowen and Zhou Lixian also said that there have been several corruption scandals in the Kuomintang ruling team recently, which has put the Ma Ying-jeou government under pressure, but we still have confidence in President Ma Ying-jeou. This is also the driving force for the Chinese Kuomintang to continue on the road to reform. Overseas Chinese are determined to support President Ma Ying-jeou and lead us forward bravely.

This time I went to Los Angeles to attend Ambassador Jin Pucong’s welcome luncheon, which made me feel that Ambassador Jin is a modest, prudent, friendly and courteous ambassador. Therefore, he has gained the respect of overseas Chinese and American dignitaries. In short, this time party members directly under the Arizona branch participated in the event to welcome Ambassador Jin Pucong, which added cohesion to the work of the party branch and made overseas Chinese more aware of the importance of Ma Ying-jeou continuing to serve as chairman of the Kuomintang.
