(Contributed by the Alberta Chinese Overseas Chinese Federation) The seventh "Phoenix Night" celebration of the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the Mid-Autumn Festival will be held grandly at Arizona State University on September 22, 2013. In order to prepare for this event, Wang Weizi, president of the Overseas Chinese Federation of Alberta, held the second preparatory meeting on August 10. The meeting was chaired by Secretary-General Dong Bin. Wang Weizi first expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone for their selfless dedication to Chinese community activities, and wished the celebration a complete success. He also introduced to everyone the overall planning and latest progress of the series of activities to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day. According to the meeting agenda, the person in charge of each activity reported the preparation status of various tasks to the participants. Xu Zhiping and Tan Guoming reported on the progress of the Sino-US Cultural Forum, Youth Poster Competition and Photography Competition, and invited three guests to give keynote speeches at the Sino-US Cultural Forum. Fei Jian explained the specific matters of the National Day reception to the participants and introduced the implementation of the performances by local artists, Chandler Children's Chorus and ASU students. Lin Xin reported to everyone the preparations for the Mid-Autumn Festival Ball, and called on everyone to actively invite relatives and friends to participate in the large-scale Mid-Autumn Ball held at the ASU Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom from 7 to 9 pm on September 22. Preparations for the Youth Poster Competition and Photography Competition are also in progress. The specific event schedule is as follows: 1) Sino-US Cultural Forum: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, ASU Memorial Union Turquoise Room 220. 2) National Day Reception: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, ASU Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom. 3) Youth Poster and Photography Contest Awards Ceremony: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, ASU Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom. 4) Mid-Autumn Festival Dance: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, ASU Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom. This large-scale series of "Phoenix Night" celebrations is co-sponsored by the Chinese Overseas Chinese Association of Alberta and the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, and co-organized by the Chinese Overseas Chinese Association of Greater Phoenix, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Arizona State University, the Alberta Modern Chinese School, the Alberta Hope Chinese School, and the Alberta Times. The organizers are all volunteers who work during the day and squeeze out their personal breaks in the evenings and weekends to participate in the preparations for the celebrations. During the preparation process, many social groups and volunteers received active participation and strong support. Our only wish is to work hard to successfully organize this series of activities to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, and provide a satisfactory answer to the community and overseas Chinese!
