(Contributed by Qiuxiang) On the morning of Wednesday, April 9, at Pyle Adult Recreation in Tempe Center, the free English learning class organized by the Joy Luck Club successfully held its first class, with a total of sixteen students attending the class. The lecturer, Mr. Tang Xiaoxian, was a senior English teacher in domestic universities before coming to the United States and has rich language teaching experience. This time he is volunteering to teach this English class.

The Chinese Joy Luck Club is a Phoenix-based social organization based on people from East China who come to the United States. It does good deeds and practical things for the Chinese community. It holds this adult English learning class to provide face-to-face learning opportunities for family members visiting relatives in the United States, spouses of international students and other people who want to learn English, and there is no tuition fee. Teachers are also provided by volunteers who teach on a voluntary basis.

This is a public welfare activity with strong support from the members of the Joy Luck Club. The preparatory team is organized by eight people, and teachers Tang Xiaoxian and Diana Desilva, who can speak Chinese and have rich language teaching experience, are hired to teach. Many people sent emails and called and signed up enthusiastically.

This class focuses on practicality and uses situational teaching, which is divided into ten aspects: interpersonal communication, community, country, environment, food, shopping, home, health, employment, transportation and tourism. Learn and apply what you have learned, and you will get immediate results. There is a class every Wednesday morning for two hours, focusing on one aspect.

The class will be held at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center in Tempe, which was quickly approved by the Community Services Bureau of the Tempe City Government. Mr. Cui Zengqi, Vice Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation of Greater Phoenix City, and Mr. Yu Hua, the head of the New Oriental Art School, came to congratulate the opening of the English learning class.
