(Contributed by Hope Chinese School) On August 2, there are still two weeks until the start of the 2014 school year at Hope Chinese School. However, all the teachers and staff of the school have already taken action and are fully prepared for the new school year by participating in the school's new school year training meeting. The conference was held at the China City Buffet. While the school was preparing for the start of the school year, it also invited everyone to share a delicious meal. The meeting started in a warm atmosphere. While everyone tasted various delicious foods, they exchanged various interesting things during the holidays and shared their preparations for the new semester courses. It was very lively. After everyone tasted the delicious food, the new chairman Ms. Zhou Qing gave a speech first. She summarized the achievements of the Chinese school under the leadership of the previous directors and principals, and expressed her determination to continue to lead the teachers to run the Hope Chinese School well in accordance with the predecessors.

After Chairman Zhou delivered a speech, Ms. Tian Lin, the newly appointed principal this year, presided over the training meeting. Principal Tian reminded all teachers that the school will officially start on August 16th. Please make all preparations before the start of school. Later, she proposed some new measures for this semester, such as the parent-accompaniment system in the classroom, urging students to responsibly maintain the sanitation of the surrounding environment, and teachers not to rely too much on TA to correct homework. Only in this way can we have a better understanding of each student's extracurricular learning results, so that students can be taught in accordance with their aptitude to further improve the quality of teaching. Teachers must continue to implement the original teacher regulations, educate students better with higher teaching quality and more standardized teaching behaviors, and set a good example for students. The teachers also put forward good suggestions on various aspects such as jointly maintaining the school environment, increasing student volunteer opportunities, and student safety. Principal Tian also requested that all Chinese teachers in Hope Chinese School must participate in the upcoming national Chinese teacher training sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council to further improve the teaching standards of Chinese teachers.
The new principal, Ms. Tian Lin
Every year, Hope Chinese School carefully selects some outstanding new teachers to join the Hope team, and this year is no exception. They are Teacher Wang Xiaoli, who graduated from the English Department of a domestic normal university and has been engaged in education in China for more than five years; Teacher Shen Haojin, who has taught in a modern Chinese school for six years and is famous for her flexible and rich teaching experience and classroom activities that students love; Teacher He Zhouzhou, who studied at the School of Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has Chinese teaching experience in Lincoln and Kansas; and Teacher Robert Bowley, who has an English speaking and writing teaching license, and will teach our school's English Writing class. Thanks to the addition of these outstanding talents, the school's teaching staff has always maintained a complementary state of senior teachers and fresh energy.
All the teaching staff participating in the meeting
Mr. Gong Ming and Mr. Zhu Jie are excellent local senior Chinese teachers. Although they will not teach in our school this year due to various reasons, the school still specially hired these two outstanding teachers as consultants for the Chinese group of our school, and invited them to visit the school frequently to exchange experiences with teachers and supervise teaching work. In the group discussions after the group meeting, Teachers Gong and Zhu shared their many years of teaching experience with new and old Chinese teachers, such as how to improve students’ interest in learning, how to alleviate senior students’ resistance to learning Chinese, how to use teaching materials rationally and enrich teaching content themselves, etc. New teachers also actively raised their confusion about the teaching materials and problems they may encounter in teaching.

In the lively questions and discussions, this pre-semester teacher training meeting came to a successful conclusion. It is hoped that the Chinese school will continue to teach Chinese knowledge and culture to students, and at the same time develop and innovate more colorful extracurricular courses, including Chinese, mathematics AP classes, Math-Count, SAT English reading, SAT English writing, English writing, children and adult folk dance, modern dance, art, painting, Go, chess, martial arts, Tai Chi and other courses, and actively carry out various teaching activities and competitions.
