> In recognition of the many contributions Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have made to advancing America's success, adding to its diversity and richness; while many Asian immigrants came to the United States in the nineteenth century to work in agriculture and transportation industries, building the first transcontinental railroad connecting the east and west coasts, thereby greatly expanding economic growth across the country; over time, other immigrants began their migrations from East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Asian subcontinent, and the Pacific Islands People's Journey; Today, Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing segments of our population

They have simultaneously increased linguistic, racial and religious diversity; and are serving the cause of freedom and peace around the world, serving in the U.S. military beginning in World War I; In recognition of the outstanding achievements of Asian Pacific Americans to the United States, Congress, pursuant to Public Law 102-450, as amended, designated May of each year as Arizona's "Asian Pacific Heritage Month" to recognize and honor Arizona's significant contributions to Asian Pacific immigrants. Recognizes the entrepreneurship and innovation of Asian Americans across the country, including in business, technology, medicine, agriculture, education, the arts, and public service.

Now, I, Governor Douglas A. Ducey of Arizona, hereby proclaim May 2017 as Asian Pacific Heritage Month

and urge all Arizonans to join in celebrating the contributions of Asian Americans to our country and region.
