The Alberta Times participates in the business training class for overseas Chinese media personnel. In order to strengthen the connections between Chinese media in the world, improve the competitiveness of Chinese media, and ultimately make a unique contribution to improving China’s international communication capabilities and enhancing China’s national cultural soft power and international discourse power, the World Chinese Media Cooperation Alliance and China News Service, under the direct guidance of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, will hold the first business training class for overseas Chinese media acquisition and editing personnel on May 4, 2011. The deputy president of the Alberta Times, Zhen Kaiying, and the news director, Xie Chengyan, will go to Beijing and Chengdu to participate in this training for 11 days. The training is divided into three parts: special lectures, theoretical teaching, and interviews. In the interview and inspection part, all trainees will go deep into the Wenchuan earthquake area to visit people in the disaster area and pay attention to the results of post-disaster reconstruction. Articles related to their studies and interviews will also be sent back.
