Preparatory activities for the overseas Chinese community in Phoenix to celebrate the National Day and welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival are in full swing. To celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival of the Chinese nation, the overseas Chinese community in Arizona will join hands with the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Arizona State University (ASU), the University of Arizona (UA) and the Thunderbird School of Business to hold a series of activities to celebrate the National Day and welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival. According to Chen Zhuomei, Yang Wentian, Xu Qiang, general convener of the organizing committee, and Wang Jianmin, executive chairman of the event and president of the Chinese Association, the "Celebrating National Day and Welcome Mid-Autumn Festival" will consist of a series of activities. National Day receptions, flag-raising ceremonies, theatrical performances, National Day dinners, photo exhibitions, social dances, "National Day Cup" basketball, badminton, table tennis open competitions and other activities will be launched one after another. In addition, an essay competition with the theme "I Contribute to the Motherland's Twelfth Five-Year Plan" will also be launched immediately. Friends from all walks of life who hope that the motherland will be more prosperous are welcome to contribute ideas and contributions. The climax of the series of activities will be the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival reception and artistic performances held at 6 pm on September 10, 2011 (Saturday) in the MU Building of ASU. The organizing committee will provide prizes specifically for this series of activities and award awards to the winners at the evening party on September 10.
