On May 25, a Phoenix City delegation of 15 People participated in the "Chengdu International Sister City Week" event held by the Chinese sister city Chengdu. Phoenix City Councilor Michael Johnson, Phoenix Chengdu Sister City Chairman Liu Ruzhang, Phoenix Chengdu Sister City Deputy Director Rocky Golade, and members of the Phoenix Sister City Committee attended the opening ceremony of the "Chengdu International Sister City Week" held in Chengdu on the evening of May 26. Li Chuncheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee, Qiu Haiming, executive vice president of the Chengdu People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and other leaders participated in the grand event with the delegation. Heads of delegations from 26 Chengdu sister cities negotiated and took photos together.
The "Chengdu International Sister Cities Photo Exhibition" with the theme of "Sharing Beauty, Inheriting Friendship" was held in Kuanzhai Alley, Chengdu. On the afternoon of the 26th, members of the delegation went to visit. The Phoenix City Museum of the United States brought to Chengdu many wonderful pictures reflecting the characteristics of the West, such as deserts and cacti, which attracted many local citizens. In particular, the display of the characteristics of the Indian ethnic minorities is very similar to the local multi-ethnic characteristics of Chengdu.
Phoenix City Councilor Mike Jonson gave a wonderful speech at the Mayors’ Roundtable of the Sister City Enterprise Cooperation Forum. They were full of confidence in the economic cooperation between sister cities.
The Phoenix City delegation also came to Chongzhou City Wenjingjiang Kindergarten to participate in the opening ceremony. This kindergarten was built after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake with US$167,000 donated by Phoenix businesses and citizens. It is a testimony of the friendship between sister cities.
On May 31, the Phoenix delegation ended their trip in Chengdu and arrived in Phoenix successfully.
