At 7 p.m. on July 16, a dinner party for nearly 200 people was held at Luk Fook Restaurant, led by the Greater Phoenix Chinese Overseas Chinese Association (Overseas Chinese Federation), to canvass votes for the Phoenix City mayoral candidate "Claude Mattox". Senior overseas Chinese leader Yu Wenjin, Overseas Chinese Affairs Advisory Committee member Yin Yanhuan, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation Deng Chaoju, former Chinese councilor Huang Shijun, Vice Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation Zhang Huafang, Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee member Gao Zhizhong, Asia Pacific Health Promotion Association founder Xu Kailai, Tzu Chi Phoenix City Liaison Office Huang Yulian, Dean of the Chinese Language School Li Linglin, Chinese Restaurant Association Vice Chairman Mei Shude, Director Lu Shaoming, President Zhen Shuoqin and Vice President Guan Zhaofeng of the Kaiping Association of Alberta, Fei Jian, President of the Overseas Chinese Federation, Cui Zengqi, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Association, Qiu Shunxiong, Chairman of the Chinese Federation and his wife, Chen Zhigang, President of the Sichuan and Chongqing Association, Yu Wenze, representative of Yu Fengcaitang, and more than 20 heads of Chinese associations and representatives of overseas Chinese groups attended the dinner. Claude Mattox has served the citizens of Phoenix for nearly three decades. Thirty years ago, Mattox's home was robbed. As a young man, he decided to stand up and do some service for community safety. And this job of serving the public has no end once you start it. Whether you work in insurance or in other industries, you all regard maintaining a safe community as your responsibility. This year is Mattox’s third year as a Phoenix city councilman. Summing up his many years of service experience, he decided to run for mayor of Phoenix City and use practical services to build Phoenix into the safest community with the highest quality education and the most stable business. Overseas Chinese Affairs Advisory Committee member Yin Yanhuan, Overseas Chinese Federation Chairman Deng Chaoju, former Chinese parliamentarian Huang Shijun, Overseas Chinese Vice Chairman Zhang Huafang, and Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee member Gao Zhizhong all gave brief speeches in support of Claude Mattox's participation in the election. Cui Zengqi, chairman of the Senior Citizens Association, even gave an example. He told about Claude Mattox's efforts to preserve the Senior Citizens Association (Chinese Elderly Association) during his service to the community. Many friends present raised many harsh and pointed questions to the prospective mayor who is about to participate in the election. For example, former Chinese councilor Huang Shijun proposed that the development of two Chinese-populated areas will continue to follow the old policies of the previous mayor, or will new policies be introduced? Issues such as the choice between old and new communities. Claude Mattox said that he would not repeat the work done before and would follow some previous development plans. At the same time, he would also keep pace with the times and communicate with the planning and development department to make the most reasonable plan. Some people say that taxes in Phoenix are already high enough. Will they increase taxes after he takes office? Claude Mattox said he would never increase taxes easily and would look for other ways to solve the problem of insufficient government funds. Questions came one after another and were very lively. Of course, there were also relaxing moments. Tina Peng, a student in the art dance class of the New Oriental Art School, performed the Chinese Dai dance "Raining Bamboo Forest" to the guests. Chinese painter Li Cheng also presented a traditional Chinese painting to Claude Mattox with a splash of ink. The dinner party did not end successfully until 9 p.m. Registration for the election will begin in Phoenix on August 1, next Monday. Residents who have lived in Phoenix for more than 29 days are entitled to vote. Registration forms to vote are available at all libraries.
