"Overseas Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition" Phoenix Registration Opens [Contribution from the National Association of Chinese Schools] The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China once again launched the third overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition and entrusted the National Association of Chinese Schools to organize and host the competition in the United States. Since 2007, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council has organized two Chinese cultural knowledge competitions for overseas Chinese teenagers around the world. Due to its large scale and high standards, the competition has received widespread attention from Chinese schools in overseas countries and the positive response of thousands of Chinese teenagers. The National Association of Chinese Schools has now issued registration notices to more than 400 member schools across the United States. At present, more than 30 test centers have been identified across the United States. There are two test centers in Arizona, one in Phoenix and one in Tucson. The Phoenix City Test Center has test rooms at three Chinese schools, namely Modern Chinese School, Hope Chinese School, and Fengcheng Chinese Christian Church Chinese School. Among them, the Fengcheng Chinese Christian Church Chinese School examination room includes candidates from this school and Fengcheng Chinese School candidates. Recently, principal Li Zhen of Fengcheng Chinese Christian Church Chinese School in the Phoenix area, teacher Shen Haojin, head of the Chinese group of the modern Chinese school, Xie Ming, the board of directors of Hope Chinese School, and Shuai Zhiruo, vice president of the National Chinese Schools Association, decided through a telephone conference that the competition time in the Phoenix area will be the weekend of November 19th and 20th. All contestants in this competition will receive prizes from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council will issue "Qualification Award" and "Excellence Award" certificates to candidates who reach a certain score line. Winners of the Excellence Award can participate in the "Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition Winners Summer Camp" to be held in Beijing next summer. Registration for Phoenix City is currently underway at the above three schools, and the number of applicants has exceeded last year. If middle school and high school students from other schools or self-taught Chinese are willing to participate, please contact Mr. Xie Ming, deputy director-general of the National Association of Chinese Schools and coordinator of the Phoenix Test Center: mxieusa@hotmail.com. The deadline for registration is October 10th. There are a total of 100 multiple-choice questions in this competition, and 90% of the questions are related to the content of the "400 Questions for Review of Chinese Cultural Knowledge" organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. In order to promote and facilitate young people to learn Chinese cultural knowledge, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council also organized and compiled three book series: "Common Knowledge on Chinese Geography", "Common Knowledge on Chinese History" and "Common Knowledge on Chinese Culture". To learn about the 400 review questions and order the above books, please visit the National Association of Chinese Schools’ website: www.CSAUS.org or www.cccee.org/culture. Last spring, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of China successfully held the Second Overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition in 15 countries around the world, attracting 22,000 Chinese youths to participate, of which more than 2,000 achieved excellent results or above. The National Association of Chinese Schools had hundreds of “Excellence Award” winners in the last competition. Among the students with high scores and outstanding performance in Chinese talents and other aspects, five winners have recently been selected as members of the American team and will participate in the global "Overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition Finals" organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council will fund their expenses for returning to China to compete, including international travel expenses. The finals will be held from October 20th to November 3rd in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China.
