There are nearly 80 Chinese teachers on site

At 9 a.m. on December 4, the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University invited Professor Wang Zhoushuhan to hold a Chinese teacher lecture for 220 teachers at MU. Professor Wang is the deputy director of the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland, the superintendent of foreign language and international education in Delaware, and the executive director of Chinese language promotion at Asia Society. She has been engaged in the promotion of Chinese education for a long time, and this lecture was warmly welcomed by local Chinese teachers. Professor Smadelin, the director of the Confucius Institute, delivered a welcome speech and thanked Professor Wang for coming to Arizona to give lectures. Nearly 80 Chinese teachers from preschool education to university education attended the lecture that day, and everyone said they benefited a lot. Professor Wang Zhoushuhan analyzed the setting of a class from the perspective of learners and teachers, and used the 5Cs standard to evaluate the courses Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparison, and Community. Professor Wang believed that Community and Comparison should be placed at the top because communication should be carried out in a community. Comparison emphasizes methods, methods of thinking, methods of using materials, etc. Professor Wang requires that Chinese classes should use Chinese as much as possible and not use too much English to explain, because this can promote students' thinking. When they encounter words they don't understand, they have to think and figure it out by themselves. Teachers can use many teaching materials in the classroom, such as songs, poems, stories, etc., but when selecting materials, they should try to use materials that students can use in their lives, or that are slightly above their abilities. This can not only consolidate the old knowledge they have learned, but also obtain new information. Professor Wang summarized most of the teaching rules in short words, bringing very direct help to teachers.

During the break of the speech, the reporter asked Professor Wang how the development of Chinese education in Arizona compares with other states. Professor Wang said that Arizona has developed very rapidly in the past five years. In particular, with the Confucius Institute as the center, the important point of teacher training has been grasped. In this way, the Confucius Institute has formed an interface with various Chinese schools and Confucius Classrooms in public schools. This is a very good pattern. Only when the quality of teachers improves can Chinese education have hope. When asked, with this basic aspect of Chinese education basically formed, what aspects of development should be strengthened next? Professor Wang said that it is important to have experts for training, but more opportunities should be provided for local teachers to communicate with each other, and more open classes can be held to allow everyone to exchange experiences. At the same time, it also allows more mainstream American society to see the results of Chinese education, giving them confidence in Chinese education. At the same time, the "Star Talk Project" supported by the federal funds of the United States also provides many training opportunities for Chinese teachers. Teachers can go out and discuss Chinese education with teachers across the United States. Teachers are welcome to go to www.startalk.umd.edu to take a look and find a training program that suits you. Professor Wang also pointed out that many people only pay attention to the courses they teach. In fact, they do not realize that they are doing a very great thing, which is building an overseas Chinese education curriculum system. Because unlike Spanish and English, many Chinese teaching curriculum designs are completed by Chinese teachers, who have played a very important role in building a Chinese teaching system across the United States. Professor Wang Zhoushuhan not only brought many good ways to design courses to Chinese teachers in detail, but also made good suggestions for the development of overall Chinese education in Arizona.
