As the new school year is about to come, the Chinese Choir of Alberta will also start a series of activities such as rehearsals, performances, and exchanges and learning for the new year. Please see the schedule below for specific arrangements. Since the establishment of the Alberta Chinese Chorus in February last year, under the diligent guidance of teacher Gu Yayu, there have been more than 40 members, and the chorus level has continued to improve. It has established three rehearsal venues at the First Chinese Baptist Church, New Oriental Art School and Connaught Building, with two major teams, Mandarin and Cantonese. Here, I would like to express my special thanks to the above three units for their support and help to the Chinese Choir in Alberta and the Chinese amateur cultural and entertainment life in this region. Since its establishment, the Alberta Chinese Chorus has participated in performances of various sizes. She has participated in two Spring Festival galas hosted by the New Oriental Art School, the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day dance held by the Overseas Chinese Association of Alberta, the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day dance held by the Federation of Chinese Overseas Chinese in Alberta, the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet hosted by more than 10 organizations including the Alberta Times, and sang loudly at the 2012 Chinese New Year celebration hosted by the local world-class musical instrument museum.
> Ms. Gu Yayu, president and chief conductor of the Alberta Choir, was born in Hong Kong and grew up in New York. She has been engaged in vocal singing and teaching for more than 30 years. She graduated from Queens University in New York City and further studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and the Choral University of Westminster in New Jersey. She majored in vocal pedagogy at Texas Woman's University and received a master's degree. Over the years, Ms. Gu Yayu has not only devoted herself to music and art, but has also won the first prize of the Texas Gustavos Vocal Competition, the honor and medal of the "French Royal Fleur de Lis" awarded by the International Association of Nobles and the National Association of University Presidents, and the Honorary Professor and Medal of Dewey University in the United States. He has successively founded and conducted many Chinese choirs in New York, Texas, and Iowa, including the New York "United Chorus", "Haiyun Choir", "Earth Chorus", and other Chinese choirs, as well as Christian church choirs of different sizes. In 1985, he participated in and planned the first performance of "Yellow River Cantata" held by Chinese on the East Coast of the United States at Lincoln Center in New York and served as a soloist. Later, he conducted the "Yellow River Cantata" many times in New York. In order to further strengthen the organization of the choir and improve the singing level of the choir, we warmly welcome all men, women and children who are interested in choral music to join us and enjoy more fun of singing, communication and performance on this platform of Chinese amateur entertainment life.

Mandarin group rehearsal time and place: Time: August 5, Sunday, 7:00-8:30 pm (same time every Sunday except holidays) Location: New Oriental Art School (Ray/Alma School in the northwest corner)
