"Listen to the local accent "Send Nostalgia" Mid-Autumn Festival Gala of Kaiping Hometown Association in Phoenix City, Alberta (Alberta Times reporter Zhen Songwei reported from Phoenix City, Alberta) Kaiping dialect, Kaiping house songs, and Cantonese operas all have distinct cultural characteristics in the Fengcheng Restaurant. Uncle Jia (Kong Tianquan), a fellow from Kaiping and a well-known local columnist who has immigrated to the United States for more than half a century, took out his "family portrait." His son (a second-generation Chinese immigrant) took the stage and told the classic Chinese family story of his parents and himself working hard in Phoenix. With a strong local accent and a strong nostalgia, on the afternoon of September 2, more than 200 Kaiping folks from Phoenix, Arizona, with their young and old, as well as local Chinese friends from all over, gathered together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. The folks are busy with work all year round in this foreign country. It is rare for them to gather together on this Labor Day weekend. Everyone is in high spirits and joy, and the scene is warm and warm. The party was hosted by Mr. Situ Rixian and Ms. Yu Jiangying, vice presidents of the Kaiping Association. Mr. Situ briefly introduced the relevant situation of the party. The party was delivered by the president, Mr. Zhen Shuoqin. Chairman Zhen thanked all the folks and guests for coming to the Mid-Autumn Festival. He also thanked the merchants and fellow villagers who supported and generously sponsored the event. He introduced the guests one by one. At the party, the family photo of Uncle Jia (Kong Tianquan), a well-known person in Phoenix, was also promoted. This photo was recommended by the "Alberta Times" to participate in the "Family Portrait" photo collection competition sponsored by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and won the second prize. Mrs. Jia Shu also presented the award certificate on the spot. The large-scale family photo that won the award was displayed on the stage, winning warm applause and congratulations from the attending folks. Uncle Jia's two sons, Kuang Jianfu, who serves as hospital director, and Kuang Yuefu, who serves as a senior engineer, enthusiastically took the stage to introduce their big family to the villagers. Although they were born in the United States, they did not forget their local accent and could hear and speak the usual Siyi dialect of their hometown. They then told everyone in English through a translator that their parents had taught them how to be a human being since they were young, remember that they are Chinese, remember the traditional Chinese culture, have a harmonious family, have a successful career, and contribute to society. There was also a wonderful artistic performance at the party. The choir sang many familiar songs, including Taiwan's Alishan song and dance, violin solo, gaohu, and dulcimer small ensemble. The villagers were even more amazed that they could hear the folk songs of their hometown in this foreign country. Mr. Yu Yuan, who came all the way from Los Angeles, California, sang the Kaiping Jiafang song impromptu, "in Autumn is really happy, folks gather in Kaiping, delicious wine and delicious dishes, steamed shaomai, Western and Chinese food are exquisite; good singing, colorful clouds chasing the moon, laughter in the lobby of Fengcheng, every family is happy. Uncle Jia has a good family, descendants are elites, a harmonious and good photo, the world's award-winning people are envious; if there is no winner, the villagers celebrate together, shout and toast, and the branches and leaves of the clan will prosper forever." The friendly tone of hometown folk songs, and the chorus of "yo ho" at the end of each section, bring the folks, especially the older overseas Chinese, back to their hometown. In addition to the wonderful cultural performances, the party also included a lucky draw for rich prizes. Everyone shared the big cake presented by the Kaiping Association and Mr. and Mrs. Kuang Tianquan. The whole party was filled with climaxes and laughter.
