Phoenix City Chinese School held a word recognition competition for students from fifth to eleventh grade at 1:45 pm on November 4th. The purpose of the school's literacy competition is to allow every participating student to learn Chinese and teamwork through the game. This year is different from the past, and the competition will be based on text solitaire. Before the game, students from grades 5 to 11 were divided into five teams [red, yellow, blue, black, and white] by drawing lots, with each team having about 9 people.

Before the official start of the competition, first ask the host, Teacher Lu Zhenling, to explain the rules of the competition so that every student can fully understand the rules of the competition, and use the turntable to select the team to start the first round of text solitaire competition. In the first round, the white team starts. The representative of the white team then uses the turntable to select the color of the question, reveals the first word, and then uses this word to create a word or idiom. Then the representatives of the next team must use the last word of the word created by the previous team (as long as the pronunciation is the same), and then create a word. Each person is given 5 seconds to answer. If unable to answer, they can ask for help from their teammates, but points will be deducted. If you are completely unable to answer, you will end the round by deducting points. Then a new round starts again with the next group.

Idiom Answering in the Recognition Competition

When each team began to take turns to answer, the atmosphere became more and more tense. Not only did the teammates rush to help, but the spectators nearby also couldn't help but want to give some hints. The host and the three referees not only have to maintain order, but they also cannot bear the students losing too many points. At the end of each round, they try to give priority to the teams that are behind in answering idiom questions. The organizer covers the four-character idiom with two characters, and the contestants must speak the complete idiom. If they can explain it or make a sentence, they will be given additional points. As a result, some teams that were lagging behind actually took the lead. This makes the game climax after another and the outcome is unpredictable.

Work hard to answer

After an hour and a half of competition and several rounds of rounds, the white team finally won with the blessing of the idiom part, and each student received a movie ticket. The second-place yellow team each received a gift card, and the remaining contestants also received a prize. Although there must be winners and losers in the competition, every student's performance this time was outstanding, winning recognition and applause from teachers and parents.

The school also expresses special thanks to the seven teachers from grades 5 to 11 who discussed with the academic staff to formulate the competition methods and rules, and used various methods before the competition to allow the students to work hard to practice word solitaire and idioms.
