(Contributed by Phoenix Chinese School) Phoenix Chinese School’s annual “Poetry Singing Tour and Drama Performance” was grandly launched on April 7th. These are two performance events for classes in pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. Teachers in each class use singing methods or drama performances to help students increase their interest in learning Chinese through a lively learning method. The first person to take the stage was Preschool Class A who pulled out the radish. The teacher gathered the little firefighters, ninjas, pirates, zookeepers, little princesses, and puppies to work together and finally pulled out the big radish. Next was Preschool Class B performing finger ballads. No one in this class of children could speak Chinese at home, and they only started learning Chinese when they went to Chinese school. However, although these children are young, they are not stage frightened at all, and they sing louder and louder. Afterwards, Basic Class A and Class B recited and performed "Silent Night Thoughts" and sang "Little Kitten and Trumpet" respectively. Then the students from Basic Class 2 wearing cute piggy masks came on stage to perform "The Three Little Pigs". Finally, the first performance ended with the wonderful "Talking about Chopsticks" rap dance by Session 1 (Children's Class).

Talk about Chopsticks The next scene is a drama and reading performance by each class from grade one to grade four. This group of young and old friends not only worked hard to memorize lines or poems, but it can also be seen that a lot of effort was put into preparing props. The first-grade students took turns reciting "Family, Waves and Trains", and the second-grade students also took turns performing the three filial piety in the "Twenty-Four Filial Piety" - entertaining relatives in colorful clothes, lying on the ice to seek blood from carp and mosquitoes. I saw my male classmates sacrifice themselves generously, take off their clothes and lie on the ice and sneeze until their blood is full, and they perform generously without being coquettish at all. Then the third grade presented two wonderful dramas - "The Strange Guest and Pippi's Fart". In the drama performance, we can not only see the teacher's careful planning, but also the students' hard-working and exquisite performances, and the unique costumes and props made by the students and parents. Then Class A of the fourth grade took the stage to recite five Tang poems, and finally concluded with the performance of "The Mouse Takes a Bride" by Class B of the fourth grade.
Pippi Farts This time, with the cooperation and brainstorming of teachers and parents of each class, the students were able to proudly perform on stage in Chinese with just a few weeks of classroom practice. Moreover, each class's wonderful performance won the full house's applause. I believe it will be an unforgettable experience for every student who participated in the performance.
