(Contributed by Hope Chinese School) On August 3, there are still two weeks before the start of the 2013 school year at Hope Chinese School, but all the teachers and staff of the school have already taken action and are fully prepared for the new school year by participating in the school's teacher training. The training was held at the China City Buffet. While the school was training teachers, it also invited everyone to share a delicious meal.

The training started in a warm atmosphere. While everyone tasted a variety of delicious food, they exchanged various interesting things about the holidays and shared their preparations for the new semester courses. It was very lively. After everyone tasted the delicious food, Chairman He Shijiang first gave a brief speech, expressing his determination to lead all teachers to work together to continue to run Hope Chinese School well.

Then the principal Xie Xiaohong presided over the training. Principal Xie reminded all teachers that the school will officially open on August 17th. Please make all preparations before the start of school. Then, she introduced the leaders of each teaching group and several new teachers who will join the teaching activities of Hope Chinese School next semester, so that the school’s teaching staff always maintains a complementary state of senior teachers and fresh energy. Principal Xie also introduced and emphasized the new teacher charter, which standardizes various teaching systems for teachers, hoping to better educate students with higher teaching quality and more standardized teaching behaviors, and also set a good example for students. The teachers also put forward good suggestions on various aspects such as jointly maintaining the school environment, increasing student volunteer opportunities, and student safety. Principal Xie also requested all Chinese teachers in Hope Chinese schools to participate in the upcoming national Chinese teacher training hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council to further improve the teaching standards of Chinese teachers.

After the group meeting, the teachers were divided into Chinese group, mathematics group, and talent group to continue more targeted discussions. Senior Chinese teacher Yang Jingsheng gave a illustrated introduction to the Chinese Qualification Examination of the public high school where she works in the Chinese group meeting. Although it is currently a Chinese qualification test for public high schools, understanding the form, content, and scope of the test questions will also be very inspiring and helpful to our Chinese school teachers in their daily teaching. Teacher Yang Jingsheng showed everyone her teaching videos in class, allowing teachers to learn about many teaching tools and resources that they could refer to, and they benefited a lot. She will also represent Hope Chinese School and deliver a speech at the ACTFL Conference, a national conference for foreign language teachers.

The mathematics group and the talent group also, under the leadership of their respective team leaders, formulated teaching goals for the new semester, organized various activities, and exchanged their respective teaching experiences. In the lively questions and discussions, this teacher training ended successfully.

I hope that the Chinese school will continue to teach Chinese knowledge and culture to students, and at the same time develop and innovate more colorful extracurricular courses, including Chinese, mathematics AP classes, Math-Count, SAT English Reading & SAT English Writing, English writing, children and adult folk dance, modern dance, art, painting, Go, chess, martial arts, Tai Chi and other courses, and actively carry out various teaching activities and competitions.
