Hope Chinese School Principal Tian Lin Saturday, August 16th is the day when the new semester of Alberta Hope Chinese School starts. The campus of Mesa Community College has been buzzing and busy since noon. More than 300 children, more than 50 teachers and many volunteers from the school, after a long summer vacation, once again gathered in the big family of Hope Chinese School. Every task on the first day of school was carried out in an orderly manner. The school committee, board of directors, parent volunteers and every teacher are doing their part and performing their duties conscientiously to ensure the smooth progress of all work on the first day of school. In the new semester, I hope that Chinese schools will make great progress in terms of teachers and student resources, and that colorful after-school classes will still be in full swing.

Students actively strive to speak in the Chinese class. The teaching is rigorous and the teachers are abundant. Many new teachers have joined the Hope Chinese School. In order to enrich the teaching staff, the Hope Chinese School has hired a number of new teachers with rich teaching experience and rigorous teaching attitudes this semester. Robert Bowley is hired as an English writing teacher. He has taught at Chandler Basis for many years and has many years of experience teaching English writing in junior high schools and high schools. This semester, he will also hold lectures on high school students applying for college from time to time at the school. He will answer questions for parents and classmates on how to prepare children for college application. Teacher He Zhouzhou is a sixth-grade Chinese teacher and a fourth-grade math teacher in Jinan this semester. Mr. He received his undergraduate degree from Sichuan International Studies University, majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Graduate students studied in the School of Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in Curriculum & Instruction. Her personal research direction is foreign language education and second language acquisition. Teacher He has great experience in teaching students in accordance with their aptitude and entertaining them. He is also experienced in paying attention to students' individual needs and collective needs. If there is a student in the class who exceeds the current level of all students, she will set individual learning tasks for the student; if there is a student who falls behind the average level, she will appropriately lower the requirements for the student and use positive reinforcement to keep the student trying. Teacher He’s class focuses on cultivating students’ interest in learning Chinese. Teacher Wang Xiaoli is the eighth grade teacher of Jinan Chinese this semester. Mr. Wang’s major is English. He has been engaged in the education industry in China for more than 5 years and has a domestic teaching qualification certificate. In classroom teaching, her teaching methods are flexible, diverse, and lively. She can make boring learning colorful, lively and interesting; she can make full use of students' personality characteristics, fully mobilize students' enthusiasm, and make students learn Chinese passionately and happily. Teacher Song Jiaoyu is Ma Liping’s seventh grade Chinese teacher. Mr. Song graduated from Arizona State University with a major in Computer Systems Engineering. While in China, he worked as an editor for the academic journal Higher Education Research for many years. Teacher Song’s teaching features focus on reviewing the past and learning new things, focusing on after-class homework, and focusing on expanding students’ cultural horizons. He is good at using multimedia and other teaching methods in teaching. Teacher Song sincerely hopes to help children develop an interest in understanding and appreciating the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western cultures through his Chinese teaching. Teacher Shen Haojin is an excellent teacher who is very popular with parents and students. She will teach the ninth grade of Jinan Chinese in our school. During the teaching process, Teacher Shen likes to use multimedia as teaching aids to increase students' interest in Chinese learning. On the basis of the original teaching materials, she strengthens the training of students' conversation and writing abilities, so that students can improve in all aspects of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Teacher Dai Yuhua, who was awarded the first batch of "Excellent Teachers in Overseas Chinese Education" by the China Overseas Exchange Association, teaches third grade. He teaches in small classes, pays attention to individuals, and focuses on cultivating interests. I hope that Chinese schools will always implement class teaching and exquisite teaching. There are about 20 students in a class. In addition to the main teacher, there are also teaching assistants. Teachers and assistants will pay attention to every student in the class, fully understand each child's learning situation, and teach students in accordance with their aptitude. The school requires teachers to make full use of classroom time to minimize the burden on parents. In order to cooperate with Chinese learning, the school will also organize various Chinese cultural activities to give students a platform to show their Chinese reading, speaking and writing skills. Learning Chinese is a long road, and if school parents work together, the children will gain something. Confucius once said: "Those who know well are not as good as those who are good at it, and those who are good at it are not as good as those who are happy." Interest is an invisible force that can push students to explore new knowledge and generate a strong desire for knowledge, thus developing sharp thinking, rich imagination and tenacious willpower. Therefore, we hope that Chinese schools will attach great importance to cultivating children’s interest in learning Chinese. We believe that with the efforts of all teachers, school staff and parents, children’s enthusiasm for learning Chinese will be ignited. Music, dance, art, martial arts, colorful after-school classes are also a major feature of Hope Chinese School. I hope that the Chinese school will not only have Chinese classes, mathematics classes, and English writing classes, but also a variety of after-school classes. Most of the after-school classes are held after 3 p.m. on Saturdays. After taking cultural classes such as Chinese and mathematics, many children will choose one or two after-school classes to continue their studies. After-school classes include dance classes for children and adults of all levels, adult choirs, painting classes of all levels, martial arts classes, Go, etc. Many of the teachers who teach are experienced professional teachers. With their efforts, it is hoped that the achievements of children in Chinese schools in music, dance and painting will also be obvious to all.

Students receive basic skills training in dance classes. We believe that these after-school classes are also an indispensable form of teaching Chinese culture to children. While learning Chinese music, dance, art, and martial arts, children also learn Chinese culture and experience the profoundness of Chinese culture subconsciously. Our Chinese teaching not only teaches children to recognize Chinese characters and speak Chinese, but more importantly, we allow children to master Chinese and understand the essence of Chinese culture, and appreciate the charm of traditional culture. It is hoped that Chinese schools will do their best to contribute to the inheritance and promotion of Chinese culture.
