Editor's note: Because the area around the university is an area where young people gather, the security is not very good. Recently, a shooting occurred near Arizona State University. Many international students considered buying guns for their own safety. So what is the process of buying a gun in Arizona, and what should you pay attention to first? Please pay attention to the article below to see their personal experience.
This article is the complete process of purchasing a handgun in Arizona. I am an ASU graduate student, F1 visa, non-immigrant. First of all, I would like to emphasize that you do not need citizenship, green card or SSN to buy a gun in AZ. You only need to go to Walmart to buy a hunting license ($37 when I bought it, valid for one year) and meet the age requirements (18 years old for long guns and 21 years old for pistols). The following is the whole process of buying a gun: 1. Choose a gun: First, choose the gun you want. The gun I bought is the cz-75 compact, which was recommended by a friend. I have never bought other pistols, so I will not make an evaluation. I will only give some reference opinions that I know. Glock is very famous, reliable and durable, but I personally feel that the grip is uncomfortable; Beretta 92FS: I personally feel the most beautiful, but it is said that the trigger is heavier (trigger control has a great impact on accuracy); sig p226: a legendary gun, but more expensive. I won’t say much else if I don’t know anything else. Pistols are also divided into sizes, from large to small, full size, compact, and sub compact. The big one is easy to control, the small one is portable. If you want to experience shooting, you can rent a gun at a shooting range (you can also buy a gun, mentioned later). Renting a gun there is not expensive (generally: 15$/hour venue fee, 15 or 10$/hour gun rental fee, goggles and headphones are less than 5$, paper targets are about 1$/piece), but the bullets are expensive (more than twice as expensive), and they often require that the rented gun must use their bullets. The following are two shooting ranges I have been to: Scottsdale Gun Club: 14860 N Northsight Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 Shooter`s world: 3828 N. 28th Ave Phoenix, AZ 85017 You can also google it yourself. If you find it troublesome to choose a gun, you might as well buy the same one as me. 2. Order a gun online: One point here is that you don’t have to order a gun online. You can also buy it in a store. However, you need to sign some documents when buying a gun. In large stores, there are many customers, and the clerk may not have the patience to help you. The larger outdoor stores I know include cabelas, sportsman warehouse, and bass pro shops. The addresses closest to the school are bass pro shops: 1133 N Dobson Rd, Mesa, AZ 85201 sportsman warehouse: Greenfield Gateway, 1750 S Greenfield Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206 cabelas: 9380 W Glendale AveGlendale, AZ 85305 About online gun ordering, shooting The range is usually available. I ordered it on Shooter`s world, the website is: http://www.shootersworldonline.com/ You can google several to compare prices, such as http://arizona-firearms.com/ http://www2.caswells.com/ http://sgcusa.com/ Just place the order and pay directly after choosing one. 3. Pick up the gun: If the gun you ordered is out of stock, they will order it for you and notify you to pick it up when it arrives. You need to bring your driver's license, passport, I-20, and I-94 (how to obtain I-94 https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html) to the store to sign the agreement. After that, you cannot take away your gun. They will check your background. It will take about 2 days. If the check is passed, you will be notified. At this time, you can go to the store to pick up the gun. 4. Bullets: There are many specifications of bullets. 9mm luger is commonly used. .40 is also more common but has greater recoil and smaller magazine capacity. It is more expensive than 9mm. It can be bought at the outdoor stores mentioned above, and some Walmarts also sell it. There are two types of pistol bullets: FMJ (Full metal jacket) and JHP (Jacketed Hollow Point). FMJ is a commonly used practice bullet and is cheap; JHP is a hollow bullet suitable for self-defense (it has good stopping effect, and the warhead will bloom when it enters the body, causing more damage) and is more expensive. There are other types that I'm not sure about. According to weight, it is usually divided into 115grains, 124grains and 147grains. 115grains tends to be the cheapest. I don’t know much about the differences between brands. Usually the all-metal bullets sold in stores are fine. As for the price, the cheapest one I bought was 11$/50 rounds, Remington. I bought it on Black Friday at Cabelas. The bullets at Cabelas are often cheaper than the other two places. Also, I heard that the more you buy, the cheaper it will be. Friends, please check online. The age to buy bullets is 18 for long gun bullets and 21 for handgun bullets
I have tried all the bullets in the picture and they are all ok.
50 centerfire means it contains 50 rounds.
9mm luger is the bullet specification, and 115GR is the warhead weight. No matter the weight or FMJ&JHP, as long as they are both 9mm luger, the gun and bullet can be matched.
5. Maintenance: The following video shows how to maintain my gun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEZhQJewXh0 The tools required are bore brushes, lubricating oil (bore brushes), and Gun Cleaning Patch. The following is the website where I purchased it. The brushes are included with the purchase of the gun. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C50HM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00635VIY8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This lubricant is used for both lubrication and cleaning purposes, and is non-toxic (that’s what the instructions say).
In addition, there is a fast loader: mag lula: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HBHNHE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, which greatly saves loading time.
