A mobile consular passport application service not only allows Taiwanese overseas Chinese in Fengcheng to save the travel to and from Los Angeles, but also unexpectedly facilitates a gathering of local folks and celebrates a Christmas party in advance. A group of five people including You Zhiya, secretary of the Taipei Cultural Affairs Office of the Republic of China in Los Angeles, came to Phoenix on December 6 to provide the first mobile consular service for Taiwanese overseas Chinese with the assistance of the Taiwan-American Chamber of Commerce. At less than 1 o'clock that afternoon, many Taiwanese overseas Chinese had gathered at the Best Western Phoenix Airport Inn. Some were applying for replacement of expired or lost passports, and some were foreign sons-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law applying for their first passports. We also saw parents applying for passports holding a few-month-old baby in their arms. However, the grandparents nearby were more serious about helping fill out the forms. While the children were running in and out, giggling, the adults were busy talking about their hometown in Taiwan, as if it was a happy Christmas party. Currently, the Republic of China passport has visa-free treatment for more than 135 countries in the world. Moreover, due to the advantages of Taiwan’s national health insurance and social welfare, owning a Republic of China passport has become a benefit and enjoyment that cannot be missed. Many well-known figures from the overseas Chinese community were present that day, including Zhang Qingling, Huang Yulian, Zheng Hong and Zhang Shengyi. Zhang Shengyi even brought Xinxin Supermarket's exquisite Taiwanese desserts to the staff.
