Phoenix Chinese School's annual fall barbecue event will be held on October 31st at Arrowhead Meadows Park in Chandler. This time, because it was the Western Wansheng Festival, the school combined the barbecue and Wansheng Festival activities to hold a grand event, and added a dance performance and a Wansheng Festival costume contest.

Ms. Chen Chunjuan, the president of the Chinese Cultural Association, the organizer, started recruiting parents to prepare special dishes as early as a month ago. Since about ten o'clock in the morning that day, many enthusiastic parents have arrived at the park one after another to set up the venue with their children. Lunch officially starts at twelve o'clock. The food this time includes both Chinese and Western dishes. The main dishes include white rice, fried rice, fried noodles, fried dumplings and fried rice noodles. The side dishes include vegetables, cold seaweed, braised chicken drumstick snacks, etc., as well as Western-style charcoal grilled hot dogs and pizza. In addition to a variety of thirst-quenching soda drinks, there are also desserts such as mung bean soup, bean curd, small cupcakes and chocolate cake.

While parents are sitting in the pavilion enjoying food or chatting with friends, there are also many game booths set up on the lawn for children to explore. The game booths are led by senior students from the Student Generation Association and include Ring Tossing, Wheel of Fortune, Ball Hitting Cup Tower, and Face Painting services. A photo studio was also set up in the center of the lawn, where Director Xie Jianming brought his professional camera to take photos of the dressed-up parents and students.

This autumn barbecue event, in addition to the previous game booths, photo studios, and raffles hosted by Principal Cheng Xiuling, there are also dance club dance performances and a Wansheng Festival costume contest. The dance club is a newly established extracurricular activity this semester. Xie Xiaolan, the daughter of Mr. Xie Jianming, the convener of the board of directors, serves as the instructor. Xie Xiaolan is in grade 8/9 at our school, but she has been learning various dances for more than ten years. This time she arranged three dance performances at the barbecue event. The wonderful performance won a lot of applause from the audience.

Another event - the Wansheng Festival Costume Contest, is hosted by the Student Generation Association. Ms. Li Fangpei, the instructor of the Generation Association, and Xu Yongjie, the president, had previously sent an email to the entire school, announcing that the Wansheng Festival costume competition would be divided into three categories: the scariest, the most creative, and the cutest, and that prizes would be prepared for each winner. On that day, you can see people dressed up as monsters, monsters, cute princesses, elves or cartoon characters, which makes people feel like they have entered a fantasy world. Xu Yongjie, president of the Federation of Generations, asked contestants from different events to line up and give each person a number plate. The final highlight - the tug-of-war competition - came on stage, bringing the event to its climax. Every member of the team tried their best to win the championship for the team. The audience cheered loudly and the scene was full of tension. The two sides played neck-and-neck three times and ended in a draw. The whole barbecue event ended with laughter.
