( Alberta Modern, provided by Hope Chinese School) Winter in Phoenix is always sunny and warm as spring. In such a beautiful season, we welcome the Chinese New Year. What makes this year different from previous years for many Chinese families is the large-scale and large-scale celebrations for the 2016 Year of the Monkey. The two largest Chinese schools in the region, the Alberta Modern Chinese School and the Hope Chinese School, jointly held a New Year party for the first time.

Modern Chinese School and Hope Chinese School have been established for 20 years and were selected as "Chinese Education Normal School" by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in 2013. With a total of more than 1,000 students, the two schools are the two largest Chinese schools in Alberta. In recent years, the two schools have taken turns hosting teacher group training organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council to provide teaching training for local Chinese teachers. This joint Chinese New Year party is the first time the two schools have jointly hosted a large-scale event since their establishment. Ms. Tian Shaowei, the chairman of Modern Chinese School, Mr. Jim Xi, the principal, Dr. Li Jian, the chairman of Hope, and Ms. Tian Lin, the principal, all unanimously thought at a party organized by Hualian in mid-January that it would be a good thing for the two schools to celebrate the Year of the Monkey together, which would be beneficial to the community and parents. The date and venue for the event were set at the first meeting. Jim went to the event venue to inspect the event in person the next day, and then booked the venue as soon as possible. At the same time, both schools immediately became the organizing committee. There is only 3 weeks of preparation time before the event date. The organizing committees of the two schools have met many times to carefully discuss all the details of the event and allocate work in an orderly manner. When initially planning this event, the organizing committee agreed that the number of people attending the event should be around 600, because February 7 is Sunday and it is the annual Super Football match in the United States. But I didn’t expect that by noon on February 6, the two schools had sold 800 tickets, and finally had to stop selling tickets. We are deeply sorry to the many parents who did not buy tickets.

On February 7th, the weather in Phoenix was still so good that it was impossible to criticize. The three largest pavilions in Chandler Tumbleweed Park were decorated with lights and colors, and they were full of joy. Big Chinese knots are hung on the trees, the red and yellow tablecloths are pleasing to the eye, and the high-hanging lanterns and the Chinese characters "Fu" convey joy and auspiciousness. Adults and children were dressed in festive costumes, and everyone was smiling. Amidst the sonorous and powerful sounds of gongs and drums, the children and parents spontaneously performed dragon and lion dances, enjoying themselves and it was so lively. The school committees, boards of directors, parents, teacher volunteers of the two modern hope schools have made sufficient preparations for this event. Food and drinks were distributed in an orderly manner; the activities were rich in content and closely followed the traditional cultural themes - handicrafts, quizzes, traditional Chinese snack making, calligraphy, martial arts, lucky draws, and three large bounce houses for the children to release their energy. The various prizes dazzled the children and made it difficult to choose. Parents all said that this year's Spring Festival was really exciting and the children had so much fun. The most touching thing was that after the event, the huge venue was cleaned up by the volunteers in a short period of time.

As soon as the news of the Spring Festival Gala organized by the two schools was announced, the organizing committee received many feedbacks of encouragement and praise. Mr. Wang Xuezheng, leader of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Section of the Los Angeles Consulate, came all the way from California and highly praised the spirit of cooperation and unity between the two schools of Modern Hope. Ms. Shuai Zhiruo, former president of the National Chinese Association, Tao Shicheng, former president of Modern Chinese School, former chairman Wang Yang, Dr. Chen Pu, former principal of Hope, Ms. Zhao Caihong, and former chairman Mr. Li Jianmin all praised the cooperation between the two schools.

This Spring Festival Gala only took three weeks from organization to planning. The reason why the event with 800 participants was successfully completed in such a short period of time was because the two schools united people and gathered strength. This positive energy of cooperation and unity has led many parents and teachers to spontaneously join the volunteer team. The New Year of the Year of the Monkey has passed, and both Modern and Hope schools are busy with other teaching activities this semester. In the new year, the two schools will continue to work together to inherit Chinese culture and serve the community.
