After taking their seats, Deputy Consul General Wang Lei first invited the 89-year-old famous overseas Chinese leader Mr. Yu Wenjin to speak, then introduced Yang Wentian, honorary president of the Hua Association, to speak, and then invited Li Jian, president of the Hualian Association, to give a welcome speech.

President Li first expressed a warm welcome to Ambassador Cui and his delegation on behalf of the Hualien of Hualian Province for their visit to the province. On behalf of the members of the Hualian who were invited to attend, he hoped that the heads of Chinese schools and modern Chinese schools would be invited to express his heartfelt thanks. President Li reviewed the past few years when Hualian united various groups in the community to organize many large-scale community activities. Special mention was made of Hualian’s successful hosting of the 2015 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day and the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the World Anti-Fascist War celebrations and dinner, attended by nearly 300 new and old overseas Chinese. The New Overseas Chinese League in Alberta has made great progress in recent years. During the Spring Festival this year, Hualian held a tea party for the New Overseas Chinese, with more than 200 people in attendance. As the chairman of Hope Chinese School, President Li also specifically mentioned that Hope and Modern, the two largest Chinese schools in Alberta, successfully jointly held the Spring Festival Gala for the first time in 20 years, with more than 800 people participating. Wang Xuezheng, leader of the consular section of the Consulate General in Los Angeles, witnessed this grand occasion. President Li specifically mentioned listening to President Xi’s important speech in Seattle last September. I particularly agree that China and the United States are the most important countries in the world, and the relationship between China and the United States is the most important relationship in the world. Chinese and overseas Chinese must serve as a bridge of friendship between China and the United States and tell the story of China well.

Finally, Ambassador Cui delivered a speech. Ambassador Cui gave a clear and detailed explanation of China's development, future development prospects and goals, the importance of Sino-US relations, the contribution of overseas Chinese to the local area and the development of Sino-US relations. The contribution of the Chinese community in Alberta to the spread of Chinese culture was fully affirmed. Ambassador Cui was amiable, eloquent and lively, which left a deep impression on the attendees.
