On July 16, more than 20 friends from the WeChat "520hate crime incident exchange group" gathered together at Luk Fook Restaurant. Exchange views on the verdict of the case "520ASU Chinese students were attacked by white people on the light rail". From the moment it happened to the end of the final hearing, everyone contributed ideas and came to the court to support it. Mr. Yu Wenjin, a senior overseas Chinese leader, united the people of the Chinese community, initiated donations, wrote letters to the judge, studied the progress of the case and other activities, in an effort to protect the interests of the victims and severely punish the criminals. Chinese lawyers Wu Zhaowen, Eileen Sullivan, Melissa Ho, Amanda Chua (President of the Arizona Asian American Law Association) and Tony King joined forces to provide legal consultation and other services to the victims on a voluntary basis and refused to charge any fees. It turned out that the Chinese community raised US$1,300 to fight the lawsuit for the victim Shi Xiaolin (English translator), but none was spent. One thousand yuan of which was donated again to the victim in the hope that she could recover her physical and mental health as soon as possible.
Through this incident, Chinese community leaders, politicians, legal professionals, and ordinary people have united to provide advice and suggestions for the Chinese victim Shi Xiaolin, and to jointly speak out to defend the interests of overseas Chinese.
