On January 20, the 2018 Miss Chinese Phoenix Pageant came to a successful conclusion in the auditorium of the University of Phoenix. After nearly three hours of exciting competition, 8 beautiful and generous contestants and multiple local art groups brought an unforgettable night to all the audience. The Art Institute of Alberta is a unit that strongly supports and participates in this project. This year is the 50th year of the Miss Chinese Phoenix Pageant. Today, let’s talk about the relationship between the Art Institute of Alberta and beauty pageants.

First of all, the chief planner of this beauty pageant is Wen Linglin, a teacher from the Art Institute of Alberta. From the establishment of the Art Institute to the present, Ms. Wen Linglin has served as the chief planner for four consecutive years, with innovations every year and exciting programs. Therefore, the Art Institute of Alberta has a close relationship with the beauty pageant. It provides the beauties with a rehearsal venue for the competition every year, and also provides beautiful candidates for the beauty pageant. It also sends outstanding programs to participate in performances every year.

This year’s No. 6 candidate Yan Kezhen is an outstanding student from the Art Institute of Alberta. Her Dai dance even conquered all the judges and audiences, and she won the title of Best Talented Miss in this competition. Yan Kezhen is also a soloist and lead dancer at the Alberta College of the Arts.

At the 2018 Alberta Spring Festival Gala, her solo dance "Shannan Liying" group dance "Daughter of the Dai Family, Rain of the Dai Family" was warmly welcomed by Chinese and American audiences. In 2016, Peng Tianyue, the soloist and lead dancer of the Alberta College of the Arts, won the title of Miss Chinese Phoenix 2016. They have become role models for the children of the college.

The dance "Blooming" presented by the adult class of the Art Institute of Alberta this year pushed the event to a climax.一个个婀娜多姿的东方美女们,将手中的扇子和手绢都舞出了花,她们多彩多姿地绽放在舞台的每个角落,就如她们自己如花的年华,年年十八。 These girls are all dance enthusiasts. Most of them have their own happy families and spend their spare time learning dance. They even work overtime and take extra classes before the performance, hoping to bring a dance with special Chinese traditional characteristics to the audience. Some of them have been studying dance for many years, and some have just joined the team. It is a common interest that brings the girls together and allows them to regain their eighteen-year-old dream.

The beauty pageant is not only a competition, but also a platform to showcase Chinese culture and art. In this regard, it coincides with the purpose of running the Art Institute of Alberta. We look forward to working together to create more brilliance in future beauty pageants.
