The top 10 universities are: Harvard University, MIT, University of Cambridge, Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Oxford, Princeton University, University of Tokyo, University of California, Los Angeles, and Yale University.
In the 2012 global university reputation rankings, Harvard University and MIT ranked top two. The reputation rankings of Asian universities are on the rise, with Tsinghua University rising to 30th place.
In this second consecutive university reputation survey, American universities account for 44 seats among the top 100 most reputable universities, the UK occupies 10 seats, and Japan occupies 5 seats.
Reports indicate that the reputation rankings of Asian universities are on the rise. Tsinghua University rose to 30th from 35th last year, making it the highest-ranked university in China. Peking University rose from 43rd last year to 38th, while the University of Hong Kong rose from 42nd to 39th.
The University of Tokyo in Japan is the highest-ranked Asian university, ranking 8th in the rankings, ahead of Yale University in the United States.
Bhatti, the person in charge of this survey, said that in the West, the reduction of education funding due to the economic recession has caused the ranking of Western schools to decline, while Asian countries have invested heavily in higher education, and academic performance has improved significantly. He said that it was obvious from the survey that the prospects of universities were gradually shifting from the West to the East.
