Phoenix police are investigating three attempted kidnappings that occurred near north Phoenix-area schools in the past two weeks. Three separate reports were reported at Shea and Cholla, near 28th Street to 32nd Street. Parents at Desert Cove Elementary School and Shadow Mountain High School have received reports from their schools over the past two weeks that dangerous strangers have appeared near the schools and they need to pay attention to the safety of their children. The first incident occurred last week at 30th Street and Cholla. A high school boy was walking to football practice. When he approached a beige Toyota Corolla, two white men aged 40 to 50 tried to pull him into the car. The boy managed to escape. Then on Monday, a Desert Cove Elementary School boy was walking home when a thick man grabbed his shoulder and said, "Don't you remember me? I'm Robert. Your mother asked me to pick you up." The boy also managed to escape. Also on Monday, a girl called police near 32nd Street and Shea near Shadow Mountain High School to say a man was trying to lure her into a car. Fortunately, no children were injured in the three incidents, police said, but they were not sure whether the back-to-back incidents were related. Police are urging parents to discuss "the dangers of contact with strangers" with their children and help them plan ways to escape. Anyone with information about the attempted kidnapping is asked to call Phoenix police at 602-292-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO.
