Shaoguan, Qingyuan and other cities in the upper reaches of the Beijiang River in Guangdong have been hit by heavy rains to heavy rainstorms. In some areas, heavy rains have exceeded the once-in-a-century event. Heavy rains caused flooding in some areas, leaving two people missing and more than 80,000 people affected. At present, the flood peak in Qingyuan has not passed and the water level is still rising.

Liang Jian, chief forecaster of the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory, told reporters that on the 8th, there were heavy to heavy rains and local heavy rains in Shaoguan City and the northern part of Qingyuan City, Guangdong.

According to the Guangdong Provincial Prevention and Control Bureau, this rainfall is mainly concentrated in the Ruyuan and Renhua areas of Shaoguan and Lianzhou, Yangshan and Liannan in Qingyuan in the upper reaches of the Beijiang River in Guangdong. The heavy rainfall has caused flooding in some areas.

Zhao Yiyu, deputy director of Qingyuan City's Three Prevention and Control Office, said in an interview with reporters that as of 16:00 on the 9th, 20 towns and villages in four counties and cities in Qingyuan City, Lianzhou, Liannan, Yangshan, and Lianshan, were affected by disasters. Among them, Liannan Woushui and other towns were more seriously affected. One person was missing in the city, 42,000 people were affected, 38,600 acres of crops were affected, and 79 houses collapsed. "Two landslides occurred on the road from Liannan County to Woshui Town, causing traffic and communications to be interrupted. Repairs are currently under way and are expected to be repaired tonight," Zhao Yiyu said.

At present, the water level at some hydrological stations has exceeded the warning line and the water level is still rising. Zhao Yiyu said: "The water level of the Beijiang River is still rising, and the flood peak is expected to reach the Feilaixia Reservoir in the upper reaches near Qingyuan at 23:00 tonight." According to monitoring by the hydrology department, the water level of the Qingyuan Station in the Beijiang River was 11.5 at 8:00 on the 9th. 7 meters, Lianzhou Station is 91.06 meters (0.06 meters above the warning level), Yangshan Station is 63.06 meters (1.06 meters above the warning level), and Yingde Station is 28.65 meters (the warning water level is 2.65 meters). It is expected that at 20:00 on the 9th, the water level at Qingyuan Hydrological Station in Beijiang will reach 12.30 meters (0.3 meters above the warning level).

According to statistics, as of 13:00 on the 9th, heavy rains caused one person to go missing in Shaoguan City, 48,400 people were affected, 93,073 acres of crops were damaged, 299 houses collapsed, 6 bridges were washed away, and 3,500 meters of river embankments were damaged. Huang Jianxin, deputy director of the Shaoguan Municipal Three-Way Prevention Office, said that the floods in the affected areas of Shaoguan have subsided and there should be no new disasters.
