Local families

The New Year of 2019 is another time for the Chinese to celebrate together, drink and dine, and gather with relatives and friends. The annual cultural feast, the Zaoya Provincial Spring Festival Gala, will be held grandly at the Mesa Art Center on January 12.

The stage is full of joy, and the artistic family celebrates the New Year

The Alberta Spring Festival Gala is co-sponsored by the Art Institute of Alberta and the US-China Cultural Education Foundation, and co-organized by the Chinese Overseas Chinese Association of Alberta, Modern Chinese School, Hope Chinese School, Chinese Orchestra, Tarwater Elementary School, Coronado Elementary School, Phoenix Herald, Alberta Times, Asian American News, and Sunbird Arizona Chinese Network. Wells Fargo, Arizona's Vision, Dr. Wang Nan, Lili Supermarket, and Xu Guofu Insurance Services remain senior sponsors. Together, they played an important role in the spread of Chinese culture overseas.

This Spring Festival Gala was performed by nearly two hundred Chinese families and watched by thousands of viewers. In the opening dance, nearly a hundred Chinese and American children performed together, instantly igniting the enthusiasm of the venue. The performers are from two public elementary schools, the Alberta College of the Arts, Tarwater Elementary School and Coronado Elementary School, and an arts school. To make these children obedient in a uniform manner, the arrangement teacher and the nearly twenty class mothers have to do a lot of work. In order to cooperate with the performance, some families go out with the whole family. The mother and children rehearse intensively. The parents pick up and drop off the performers every day, and practice with them. In addition, they also arrange with other classes. The father starts cooking at home and practices basic photography skills at the same time, preparing to capture wonderful moments during the official performance. The 2019 Spring Festival Gala program will also allow more audiences to participate and experience the festive atmosphere of family reunion and joy on and off the stage. Preparations are in full swing, props and costumes have just been purchased from China, and exciting programs are also in progress. The Overseas Chinese Federation has invited guests, and children from Modern Chinese School and Hope Middle School are preparing two special programs: recitation and traditional opera.

>The United States and China join hands to welcome the Spring Festival

The U.S.-China Cultural and Educational Foundation brought China’s Zigong lantern show to Phoenix. At the same time, they also invited domestic elite artists to perform on the same stage at the Alberta Spring Festival Gala. Challenging the limits of human strength and flexibility, the well-known Chinese acrobatic master used his arms at high altitude to vividly demonstrate the beauty of strength. Sometimes they soar like eagles in the sky, sometimes they become light geese, flying through the clouds.

The traditional face-changing technique from Sichuan is the favorite of many American friends. Sichuan's face-changing masters combine Chinese and Western cultures to give the traditional technique a modern look. This is a holiday greeting from my hometown in China, and it is also the exchange and inheritance of traditional art. Since we have invited so many outstanding performers, as the host, the Arizona A Cappella Youth Choir, which has won the first place four times in a row in the Young Women in Harmony international competition, will also join us to celebrate the New Year and Chinese festivals. The Zao Chinese Orchestra, the most popular Chinese choir in Alberta, jointly performed with the modern Chinese school student band and the Trinity church orchestra. The chorus and band of the Chinese Orchestra are rehearsing intensively under the leadership of Teacher Cai, and a grand and majestic classic music piece "Sleepless Tonight" will be presented to the audience.

More highlights of the party will be revealed to you in follow-up reports!
