(contributed by Arizona Modern Chinese School) In order to help overseas Chinese schools improve school conditions, optimize the school environment, and enhance To improve the teaching level, a three-in-one Chinese teacher training mechanism of "training, assessment, and certification" has been gradually established. Recently, the "Overseas Chinese Education Famous Teacher Tour", sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, co-organized by the National Association of Chinese Schools, and hosted by the association's Phoenix Contact Center, Alberta Modern Chinese School and Alberta Hope Chinese School, visited Phoenix.
On August 4, 2018, just as the new school year of modern Chinese schools in Alberta was about to begin, the majority of Chinese teachers in Phoenix welcomed experts from the famous Chinese education teacher tour group. The leaders of our school attach great importance to this lecture. A few months ago, Principal Allan Yang began to work with the leaders of Hope Chinese School in Alberta and other local Chinese schools to actively mobilize teachers from Chinese schools to participate. He repeatedly preached that this training opportunity was rare and hoped that all Chinese teachers and Chinese education enthusiasts would actively participate. Chairman Tao Shicheng and other major school leaders also actively cooperated with the National Association of Chinese Schools to carry out organizational work related to this event.
At nine o'clock in the morning, the training lecture started on time at Discovery Hall on the main campus of Arizona State University where the Alberta Modern Chinese School is located. Nearly a hundred local Chinese teachers and Chinese education enthusiasts who came from afar gathered together. First of all, Shuai Zhiruo, former president of the National Association of Chinese Schools and Director of the Phoenix Area Liaison Center, solemnly introduced the members of this famous teacher tour group to the teachers: the tour group leader, Director Yang Yan of the Chinese Education Development Center of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province, Professor Kang Er from the School of Art of Nanjing University, Professor Ding Fang from the Department of Psychology, School of Education, Suzhou University, and Teacher Hua Xuezhen, the principal and special teacher of Jiefang Road Primary School in Lianyungang City. These teachers are all domestic academic elites and famous teachers with rich experience in Chinese education and teaching. President Shuai also thanked the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council on behalf of everyone for sending “door-to-door teachers” and making outstanding contributions to overseas Chinese education over the years.
Then the speech was delivered by Allan Yang, principal of the Alberta Modern Chinese School, the main host school. Principal Yang first thanked the experts from the Famous Teacher Tour Team for traveling thousands of miles to the United States to promote Chinese education, and thanked the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council for its multi-form and multi-channel training of overseas Chinese teachers, which has enabled overseas Chinese schools to spread Chinese culture more smoothly. Principal Yang sincerely thanked other local Chinese education leaders who participated in the organization, including Tian Lin, principal of Hope Chinese School in Alberta, and Li Jian, chairman of the board of directors, Cao Peiqin, principal of Zusun Chinese School in Tucson, Peng Xinli, principal of Fengcheng Chinese Christian Church Chinese School, Cheng Xiuling, principal of Phoenix Chinese School, and once again thanked every Chinese teacher who attended the event for actively participating in this training! Finally, Principal Yang announced that the training had officially begun!
>Professor Ding Fang, who gave the first lecture, gave everyone a speech entitled "Psychological Characteristics and Interest Cultivation of Children's Language Learning". Professor Ding is a professor in the Psychology Department of the School of Education of Soochow University and a master's tutor. He mainly focuses on research on child psychological theory and has published more than 80 related academic papers so far. She mainly emphasized that the psychological characteristics of children's language learning should be combined in the teaching process, starting from the cognitive development age of children, language acquisition process, etc., and put forward corresponding teaching suggestions. For example, during the explanation of the word "good", Professor Ding gave a very interesting picture. On the left is a mother, and on the right the mother is holding her child with her hands. It is vivid and easy to understand. This kind of teaching is very suitable for the age characteristics of lower grade students. She also introduced the theories of psychology masters such as Piaget and Egan to the teachers, and explained in a simple and easy-to-understand way how to combine the activity design of multiple intelligences with the teaching methods that use elements of Chinese culture, so that the teachers can truly feel that teaching is an art, and whoever interprets it well can influence the hearts of students!
The second teacher Hua Xuezhen lectured on the topic "Children's Chinese". Teacher Hua Xuezhen is the principal of Jiefang Road Primary School in Lianyungang City and the host of the "Hua Xuezhen Primary School Chinese Teacher Studio". She has won numerous provincial, municipal, and even national classroom teaching competition awards. Having been engaged in primary school Chinese teaching for many years, Teacher Hua based her perspective on children and explained step by step how to cultivate language learning abilities and how to explore children's learning potential from the perspectives of literacy, reading, writing, and presentation. This allowed all teachers present to realize that teachers are not only evangelists, but also guides. What is particularly worth mentioning is that Teacher Hua showed everyone an interesting and unique handmade courseware design - making Dragon Boat Festival sachets. The entire courseware design allows students to not only appreciate the poetry and cultural customs of traditional Chinese festivals, but also learn to make Dragon Boat Festival sachets, and more importantly, feel the charm of Chinese poetry and culture.
Professor Kang'er, a well-known professor at home and abroad, gave a lecture titled "Discussing Chinese Traditional Culture." Professor Kang is an expert in Chinese aesthetics and currently serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Arts, Nanjing University. He is also one of the hosts of CCTV's "Hundred Forum" column. The script written by Professor Kang has won the Chinese TV Drama "Feitian Award" twice. Professor Kang's humorous lecture analyzed the main components of traditional Chinese culture and discussed the essence of traditional Chinese philosophy and Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. He discussed the characteristics of Chinese aesthetics and cultural spirit from five aspects: cosmology, survival, aesthetics, art, and creative criticism, and listed a large number of examples, celebrities, folk songs, artists, and early Chinese outstanding films, allowing teachers to further understand the unique charm of aesthetics with Chinese characteristics, the spirit of Chinese aesthetics, and the scope of Chinese aesthetics. Professor Kang used his eloquent speech to lead the teachers through thousands of years of history, tracing their roots and appreciating the grandeur, breadth and depth of Chinese culture.
This training was a complete success. Due to the active preparations of the organizing committee, the number of teachers participating in the training at the Phoenix Station of the tour team far exceeded the number of participants in many sister cities. We would like to especially thank the school committees and boards of the Alberta Modern Chinese School and the Alberta Hope Chinese School for their careful organization and selfless dedication, as well as the strong support of all Chinese teachers. To quote a teacher from the expert group: He is warm and considerate yet kind, and feels like a spring breeze! Thanks again to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the National Association of Chinese Schools! Thanks to the experts from the famous teacher tour group! Thank you to all Chinese teachers and friends who attended the conference!
I wish overseas Chinese schools to pass on the legacy and retain the cultural roots for future generations of Chinese Americans!
