On June 24, 2017, in the hot city of Tucson, Arizona, Chinese and American friends from Phoenix and Tucson gathered at Dragon’s View Chinese Restaurant to celebrate five outstanding students who won the 2017 scholarships of the Tucson Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Advocacy Organization. Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Wang Ruijin, President of the Tucson Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Advocacy Organization, presented the scholarship year and certificate.

The five students who received this honor this year are: Andy Li, University High School (Johns Hopkins University) Erik Wong, Canyon Del Oro High School (University of Arizona), Yeohoon Youn, Sahuaro High School (University of Arizona) of Arizona) Lauren Moghimi, University High School (University of Arizona) Mira Swartzlander, Catalina Foothills High School (UC, San Diego)
Pima Community College President Dr. Sylvia Lee, Dr. Daisy Rodriguez Pitel, former State Senate Sen. Jaime Gutierrez, Hispanic Women's Corporation President Linda Mason-Gutierrez attended the event.
