(Written by: Xu Xuetao Photography: Huang Bing) I really like Liu Yuxi’s quote, “Autumn has been sad and lonely since ancient times, but I say autumn is better than spring.” Especially in Arizona, a tropical desert climate area, autumn can be said to be the most beautiful season of the year. The scorching sun of summer has cooled down, and the north wind of winter has not yet arrived. In such crisp and refreshing autumn days, Alberta Hope Chinese School has once again ushered in its annual autumn sports meeting. Different from traditional sports games, I hope Chinese school sports games do not aim at winning or losing, but fully emphasize "sports, happiness, and communication." Look, all kinds of interesting games are in full swing on the big lawn of Tumbleweed Park. Ring tying is one of the students’ favorite activities, especially since the prizes are their favorite drinks. The children are very excited to try their skills; parents also win bottled water with their children through games. I saw men, women, old and young all participating in the battle. Some were concentrating on betting, some were chatting about their experiences, some were regretful about not winning, and some were overjoyed when they won. In another corner of the park, tug-of-war competitions and relay races were also in full swing. In the tug-of-war competition for the adult group, Team Mom’s morale was like a rainbow and they were not inferior to women; Team Dad’s were gentlemen and showed their gentlemanly demeanor; Team Mom’s team won with a slight advantage in the end. The competition in the student group was even more intense. The children were all eager to compete, with the energy of a newborn calf not afraid of tigers. On the relay race field, the students took vigorous steps and ran to their heart's content in the autumn breeze, displaying youthful enthusiasm and vitality. When it comes to the word happiness, how can we not miss the blessing of delicious food. At this sports meeting, not only did the parents bring their specialty dishes, the school thoughtfully ordered delicious takeaways, and the parents of the student union members also set up stalls to grill mutton skewers, grind fresh soy milk, and make marshmallows for everyone. What’s more worth mentioning is that I hope the first cooking competition will also have a grand opening: Tremella and lotus seed soup that is both beautiful and tasty, colorful fruit tarts, pumpkin cornucopia, spicy and flavorful couple’s lung slices, Xinjiang chicken, spicy jelly, crispy and delicious radish pancakes, flower bread, golden pork chops, Taiwanese salt-fried chicken, Hong Kong-style roast pork, and a group of talented people who surprised everyone when they first appeared. The cooking masters showed off their talents, and the teachers, students, and parents enjoyed the meal and praised it. In the joyful atmosphere, there are always some busy figures working in obscurity for the smooth progress of the sports meeting. The big brothers and sisters of the student union not only provided free face painting to the children, but also actively organized charity sales to raise funds for the work of the student union and the school; the game teachers and student volunteers were busy under the sun, bringing laughter to everyone; the volunteers started purchasing and decorating early, providing reliable logistical support for the sports meeting. It is precisely because of everyone's efforts that another autumn sports meeting was a complete success. Let us look forward to the coming year together and look forward to more joy and hope!
