At 9 a.m. on February 23, the Tzu Chi Phoenix City Liaison Office was bustling with activity. Adults, children, and the elderly came here. This time they came not to receive food, but to receive free physical examinations. Brother Lewis of Tzu Chi introduced that a medical team of nearly 40 people, including twelve local doctors, four nurses, and their assistants and students from Phoenix City, volunteered to provide free clinics for everyone. Among them are pediatrics, internal medicine, ophthalmology, traditional Chinese medicine, dermatology, gynecology, etc. At the same time, nearly 40 volunteers came to the scene to help. People who come for consultation are arranged in the waiting area in an orderly manner, and take turns filling in their basic information, health status and consultation subjects under the guidance of the medical guide. From the beginning of filling in the information, there are volunteers who can speak English, Spanish, and Chinese to help, helping friends who come to consult to fill in the forms. Entering the meditation hall, several nurses measured the consultant's blood pressure, pulse, height and weight. Then dispersed to various departments where they need consultation. The busiest among all departments is the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are always long queues in the eight simple acupuncture treatment areas set up on the second floor, because Deng Yong, director of the acupuncture department of the Southeast Diagnostic and Treatment Center, brings his disciples to diagnose and treat patients. Ordinary acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and cupping are all used. A 59-year-old woman suffered a sports injury in her arm and had pain for nearly four months. When she arrived at the scene that day, Dr. Deng and her students used a combination of acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and cupping for treatment. Twenty minutes later, the woman’s pain improved significantly and she said her arm felt much more relaxed. People who come for physical examinations are of different races and ages. Some of them are old people with chronic back pain, young people with strain due to sports, and white-collar workers who are usually too stressed. After about twenty minutes of treatment, the patients were all amazed by the magical effects of Chinese acupuncture. They also expressed that they would strive for long-term acupuncture treatment in the future. By the end of the entire consultation activity in the afternoon, nearly 120 people had received free physical examination services. Everyone is very satisfied with the free physical examination provided by Tzu Chi. Tzu Chi offers free physical examinations twice a year in Phoenix. This is the first time in 2013, and the second consultation event is expected to be held in the second half of the year.
